Hi Deborah. That is so cool! I love it. In terms of learning the skills I have acquired, it has been years of outdoor time, starting as a youngster with my parents and siblings, and then my own adventures with my husband, kids and other families. I also did a 3 week Outward Bound course 8 years ago. That was amazing for giving me the confidence to camp alone.

I’ve been binge watching your videos. Love them. You are so good at capturing your experiences, taking the time to film the little moments and the beauty of NZ. I’m from the UK and travelled to NZ 25+ yrs ago, covering both islands extensively (including Stewart Island) over 12 months and fell in love with it. You mention your road trip videos in the far south of the south island but cannot find them. Would love to look at those. Anyway thanks again for sharing your experiences.

That's so lovely that you got to do a big trip around NZ. Rakiura (Stewart Island) is such a special place, isn't it?! I would love to go back. I visited with my parents 30 years ago and haven't been back since. I haven't done any videos in the deep south, but did 3 in the south of the west coast and into Otago. They are number 11, 12 and 13 if you count backwards from this video you are commenting on. There is a secluded beach camp (where unfortunately an upload error cut the end of the video - darn it! But still great), a rainy truck camp by a river, and a heavy snow camp.

All the New Zealand campers did a snow video this week but you captured it the best out of all of them. You must be strong to carry that heavy pack through the thick snow. Your video and editing is superb and I can see your channel is going to really grow. Already my favourite!

Thanks so much. I have watched Tony and Abel's snow camps and it is so cool how we all show a different perspective and type of camp from each other, and in three different parts of the island. I definitely think this camping is keeping me fit and strong, although my body is telling me that some light weight summer camps with minimal gear would be greatly appreciated, lol.

However, some people (like me) also appreciate all the hard work you do in filming/editing these videos so we who are not able to, can live vicariously through you in your excursions/experiences. Thank you ever so much for sharing the beauty and wonderment of the Southern Alps in the snow! We enjoyed the full moon the other night, too (Northland, North Island). I always LOVE seeing the diamonds in the snow. Shows just how cold it was for you. Thanks again for sharing :)

I am happy to share it with others, like you. Thanks for your support.

What a beautiful view. I was wondering what the light was on the mountain when you showed the moonlight view. Thanks for mentioning the ski resort. At first I thought someone else was out and about camping. Looking forward to your next adventure.

Wouldn't that be amazing though to see a light across on another mountain if it wasn't a settlement like a ski field and to think that there was someone else doing what you are doing. So cool.

O my word! What a Gem of a spot to go to... just stunning! And I had a giggle when you were all ready in your sleeping bag, nice and warm and... boom! Beautiful view! Why did I giggle? Well, I am exactly the same as you, I need to stand in it, be in that moment 😄 You really grabbed this trip and made a fantastic docu of it, my compliments 👍 Question, may I ask what you film with? I mean all your film gear, up to the memory cards, if I may be so bold.. I haven't seen it listed in the subscription, and I have not read the entire comments if it was asked before me by any chance.. it would be greatly appreciated in a huge way ☺️ You are one sub richer and have my utmost respect! I keep thinking, I must go and get all my gear out so I can tell you with accuracy what it all is, then I put it on the to do list (lol), so instead I am just going to say 'hi' and 'thank you' and try my best to recall all my gear. Hi Adventure OT. Where is this great spot. Thankyou Mike
@adventureot
@adventureot 3 ай бұрын
Hi Mike.This spot is in Canterbury. Funny enough it it is a terrible camping spot at any other time other than when you can guarantee to get it to yourself. It is on a popular day walking route so you would have people through your camp 90% of the time. There is no water source and it is very exposed. I timed it perfectly to camp in the fresh snow before the day walkers, but would not normally recommend it.

@adventureot
@adventureot 3 ай бұрын
Not if you are a human (fortunately). Just deer, pigs, goats, stoats, possums, rats etc. All introduced unfortunately. Horrible predators for our native species, but not for us humans. Makes for anxiety free camping.

I don't know pretty lady. I hope you have backup if you are going that extreme. You can get yourself into a whole pile of do do then it would take a pile of first responders to bail you out. Just saying. As a former first responders and all.
@adventureot
@adventureot 4 ай бұрын
That is very kind of you to say so Nick, but yes, definitely have loads of back up, and more importantly loads and loads of prep. Only out after the snow, not during, checked there would be minimal to no wind, only to a place I have been to before, know where I will camp, know where I can source wood, dependable 4 season tent, high r rating sleeping mat, 4 season sleeping bag and liner, loads of warm clothes, 4 forms of fire lighting, gas and wood carried in, spare food, food that can be eaten cooked or uncooked, PLB carried with me, and family know where I am going. Most importantly of all, no ego. Would pull out in a heart beat if I felt unsafe.
