@adventureot4 ай бұрын
Hi Deborah. That is so cool! I love it. In terms of learning the skills I have acquired, it has been years of outdoor time, starting as a youngster with my parents and siblings, and then my own adventures with my husband, kids and other families. I also did a 3 week Outward Bound course 8 years ago. That was amazing for giving me the confidence to camp alone.

I’ve been binge watching your videos. Love them. You are so good at capturing your experiences, taking the time to film the little moments and the beauty of NZ. I’m from the UK and travelled to NZ 25+ yrs ago, covering both islands extensively (including Stewart Island) over 12 months and fell in love with it. You mention your road trip videos in the far south of the south island but cannot find them. Would love to look at those. Anyway thanks again for sharing your experiences.
@adventureot4 ай бұрын
That's so lovely that you got to do a big trip around NZ. Rakiura (Stewart Island) is such a special place, isn't it?! I would love to go back. I visited with my parents 30 years ago and haven't been back since. I haven't done any videos in the deep south, but did 3 in the south of the west coast and into Otago. They are number 11, 12 and 13 if you count backwards from this video you are commenting on. There is a secluded beach camp (where unfortunately an upload error cut the end of the video - darn it! But still great), a rainy truck camp by a river, and a heavy snow camp.

Thanks so much. I have watched Tony and Abel's snow camps and it is so cool how we all show a different perspective and type of camp from each other, and in three different parts of the island. @@adventureot And NO firewood up there either. 😅 Meanwhile it was 29c in Brissy the day you filmed this. "Onward Tenzing"!

What?! 29 already. Yikes. The kiwis are going to be flocking over the ditch for some sun (funny thought, seeing as they can't fly).

Hi there. Now you’re in my kinda weather. Lots lots of snow and very cold weather. -10 is my weather during the day. -19 is at night time weather. And we get that kinda weather 5 months of the year.

Another thing. I’m sorry I can’t send you any money on this trip. But I will make it up on your next video. Sorry again.
@adventureot4 ай бұрын
Wowsers. This was ok for one night, but 5months, that is really something. I bet you would have to be well set up for that sort of cold. Here we aren't because it is so infrequent.

Louise you are so sweet even to think about that. The old saying is true, it IS the thought that counts. I appreciate that you would if you could, and that means a lot. Thank you.

Hi Adventure OT. Where is this great spot. Thankyou Mike
@adventureot3 ай бұрын
Hi Mike.This spot is in Canterbury. Funny enough it it is a terrible camping spot at any other time other than when you can guarantee to get it to yourself. It is on a popular day walking route so you would have people through your camp 90% of the time. There is no water source and it is very exposed. I timed it perfectly to camp in the fresh snow before the day walkers, but would not normally recommend it.

Good idea. I only encounter snow like this once a year though so might be a little way down the wish list. Would be great tho.

Arent there any predators out there?
@adventureot3 ай бұрын
Not if you are a human (fortunately). Just deer, pigs, goats, stoats, possums, rats etc. All introduced unfortunately. Horrible predators for our native species, but not for us humans. Makes for anxiety free camping.

I don't know pretty lady. I hope you have backup if you are going that extreme. You can get yourself into a whole pile of do do then it would take a pile of first responders to bail you out. Just saying. As a former first responders and all.
@adventureot4 ай бұрын
That is very kind of you to say so Nick, but yes, definitely have loads of back up, and more importantly loads and loads of prep. Only out after the snow, not during, checked there would be minimal to no wind, only to a place I have been to before, know where I will camp, know where I can source wood, dependable 4 season tent, high r rating sleeping mat, 4 season sleeping bag and liner, loads of warm clothes, 4 forms of fire lighting, gas and wood carried in, spare food, food that can be eaten cooked or uncooked, PLB carried with me, and family know where I am going. Most importantly of all, no ego. Would pull out in a heart beat if I felt unsafe.
