Perfect timing as I’m about to buy a new steering wheel. Love the vids, easy to watch and very informative. Keep it up.

Top tip when removing your steering wheel, leave the nut on so when wheel comes loose you don’t hit yourself in the face with it.

That would be a really stupid thing to do. Yes, I did it when I was a lad. Nose bled for hours😅

First mod I did with my defender was change the wheel to a smaller one with quick release boss. Added security and a bit more elbow room, combined with the mudstuff seat runners makes the defender a much nicer place to be.

Since 8 years ago, I am happy with my aftermarket steering wheel from Nakatanenga

Got the same wheel, but with the polished spokes and centre. Looks nice, but it reflects in the windscreen in the sun. Also, I'd check those bolts on the boss in a week or twos time as mine needed nipping up a couple of times.

Thanks for the clip, very informative. One question, is this a 14” or 15” wheel?

This is a 15" wheel

The fact that you’ve got the seam not at top dead centre is bothering me. I have the same wheel, love it.
@LRLiveUK Жыл бұрын
This one doesn't have a centre seam. Just two at 4 and 8 o'clock (if you know what I mean!)

i just bought a diy leather grip with needle and thread for mine and i put the sleeve on with the seam top dead centre then reading the instructions on how to sew it on XD it says making sure the seam is at the bottom ..... i had to pause for a bit and decide what to do hahaha ended up caving and followed the instructions with it at the bottom. but then totally ignored them on how to actually sew it on lol

Maybe easier with that hub/wheel combo, to bolt them together first... before fitting to shaft

Yeah, I agree!

That's what I did with mine.

My 90 doesn’t have a soft steering wheel like you took out, it’s got the old hard thin 4 spoke classic one 😂

All the wheels seem to be either black, wood or covered in branding. Does anyone know of a good quality chestnut leather one with a subtle (if any) logo?

Loving it. And it's so much nicer to look at than the old one. Not super important but a nice bonus.

What about the horn what about the horn
@LRLiveUK Жыл бұрын
On the Defender the horn is on the stalk so no issues there.

Where’s the airbag?
@LRLiveUK Жыл бұрын
There is no airbag in any Defender up to 2020. Crazy!

AIR BAGS ARE,NT TOO SAFE WHEN IT GOES OFF AS YOU GO OVER A LARGE ROCK

Yes have you ever met anyone actually "saved" by airbags? I've been in car crashes in cars with and without airbags, and the one time they deployed they didn't help, just a pain in the ears and a guarantee that the car is a write off!

This is not a good mod in my opinion. You are bound to seriously injure your thumbs when you go offroading. Notice the placement of the spokes on the original steering wheel.
@LRLiveUK10 ай бұрын
When off road driving you should always have your thumbs resting on the outer face of the rim. That way if the wheel snatches you dont break one. So this should be fine.
@Stubear22374 Жыл бұрын
I’d be inclined to say that the one that’s bending is likely to be better in a crash as it will deform and means less injury to you. However the stronger one is going nowhere and could be likely to hurt you more. But then I’m no expert just going by the fact that deformability is what is manufactured into objects these days.

You're still going to get the column in the chest unfortunately. And I wouldn't want the rim bending under heavy braking - vehcile could go anywhere. I definately get your point though, but I don't think they're built like this for safety reasons!
