I JUST Gave one of these as a gift after putting a 20 dps mirror edge on it. That 14c28n steel takes an absolutely fantastic edge (although it seems pretty easy to chip) but when they saw this knife they were floored. It has so much value no one expects to hear its under $30 He guessed $80. highly recommend as a gift blade or a beater

I agree the P801 is probably one of the best buys on the market, and is what I would suggest as one of the best first knives for anyone getting into pocket knives that doesn't want to spend a lot of money, and yet wants a quality bit of kit. My only complaints are the flipper tab needs jimping and like you said the handle scales need some texturing.

Actually carrying this knife today. This was my first good flipper and I have given several away because I like it so much.

Good review. I frekkin' love this knife. Multiple opening options, the action is great (was my first unassisted flipper), slim, looks classy, price is amazing 14c28n... only downsides are the thumb studs could be a little bigger and yea the handle is a little slick, but with the flipper & gimping I haven't been worried about my hand sliding forward or anything. I prefer plumber's tape or 222 (purple) > blue locktite for small screws btw.

Yeah , I don’t like how some manufacturers use the blade as a billboard . Minimal printing is desirable for me . Feicken microtec names cover the whole damn blade on some

Nice review- I have both versions. Nice knife! Do not carry though for thermal/tactile reasons which is big criteria for me. Use around the house and have gifted several.

I got the p108 a few weeks ago and I like it so far. I'd like to get the blackwashed one as well. These would make great gifts to someone wanting to get into knives. I'm not sure about getting the 801 or not though. Great review MC!

It's a nice budget "edc" knife and 14c28n is one of my favorite budget steels. I think the knife was a lot more popular before all thei Chinese D2 hit the market. But , if you work construction or outside just leave this knife home, I cut open 2 bags of grout and the knife wouldn't open anymore, the dust alone clogged up the "bearings" to the point that the knife was unusable.

You where commenting about the corners of the blade are not as knocked off as the Para 3. Keep in mind that those on the Maxamet are way smoother than the other versions because of the stone wash finish, I assume.

These are nice knives, although after getting one I discovered I don't really like it and I'll never carry it. Why? Something about the smooth steel handle bugs me. I have plenty of metal-scaled knives, titanium and aluminum, but I just don't dig the steel. Maybe the smoothness combined with the weight.....I dunno. AND the thumb studs bug the hell out of me! I couldn't get it open using the studs if you held a gun to my head, and it seems I'm not the only one. So why are they there? Just silly. I'll probably end up giving it to someone who's not as picky as I am. The packaging is pretty elaborate so it would make a good gift........
@Spacebarf5 жыл бұрын
It does make a great gift, the nice pocket clip gives it just the right amount of flair and its slim enough for non-knife ppl to carry comfortably
@ogivecrush5 жыл бұрын
@@Spacebarf Oh, yeah....it IS an attractive knife. The blue accents are a nice touch. It seems like it ought to be much more expensive than it is. I'd definitely consider buying their knives again- just not that one. As far as Chinese knives go, though, I'm a big Two Sun fan.

Great knife for the price! Since I already own a Kershaw leek in black wash(read: slippery), this is not something I will be buying unless they come out with a textured handle version. Thanks for the great review, MC!

have you ever done any proper tests pitting bearing pivot knives up against washer knives? Or are you just perpetuating the myth that bearing pivots are unreliable or prone to failure? I have *only* EDC'ed bearing pivot knives for many years and *NEVER* had one fail because of the pivot, anecdote I know, but just as good as your anecdote.... The main reason why the P801 is so good (as in fires so good, and yes, I know, because I own one) is because it has a quality caged bearing pivot.
