The handle of P875 is finely etched with a honeysuckle pattern. The flower itself is traditionally deemed as a symbol of good wishes and the etched design helps users keep a firm grip.

@@MarkYoungBushcraft I would say you've already snagged two of the best - this and the Hornet (small fixed blade) are excellent. There are two other folders that I can recommend, based on my own experience of them, and a larger fixed blade that I can't recommend for you, and wish they would modify. 1) The P801, which is also a steel-handled, framelock flipper with a 14C28N, full flat ground, drop point blade. It has really elegant lines, eye-catching but uderstated blue hardware, and fairly slim profile that's easy to pocket with dress pants, all of which I find makes it a good choice for office carry. Even so, it's a good chunk of knife with excellent cutting performance, and best of all, it's under $40 USD. They've added a dark stone-washed version, which is pretty interesting, and one with a G-10 show side, but the original is still the looker, in my view. 2) The P121 Hussar, which is a liner lock flipper with G-10 handle scales. It's also 14C28N, but has a longer blade than the P801, with either a long, gently-sweeping clip point or a subtle trailing point, depending on your perspective. It has a high-ish (about 2/3) flat grind and a slight swedge along the entire back of it. It's not as slicey as the P801, but is still quite a good cutter. The handle is a little longer, much more hand filling, and very comfortable, so it has the ergos for harder use. The butt is also pretty neutral, so even folks with huge mitts can use it. I prefer it for yard work and EDC with jeans or work pants. It was my go to in cold weather, when I was stateside, when the bare steel of the P801 was a no-go. 3) The fixed blade is the Jager, and is sort of the big brother to the fixed balde you do have. It has a fairly broad, 4.5 inch, drop point 14C28N blade with a very high flat grind. The cutting performance is superb. The spine is crowned and the fit and finish are excellent. It also has the same kind of sheath system as the Hornet, with a nice thumb ramp for deployment, so it's easy to carry in a variety of ways. The handle is designed with a great palm swell and excellently done contoured G-10 scales, similar to the new contoured scales on the ESEE knives, and complete with thumb scallops. Unfortunately, the handle is too short and too thin, so it's hard to get a good grip, and when you do, it causes fatigue, which makes the kind of hard use and lengthy cutting that the blade is built for hard to do. Very frustrating. I've modded mine with a simple paracord wrap to give it more girth, and that helps a lot - I can do propper cutting with it now. But honestly, if they made the handle 1/2 an inch longer and 1/4 thicker, I would not be able to put the thing down and I am sure they would sell a LOT of them. It is, for my purposes and environment, a better choice than a contoured-handled S35VN ESEE-4, especially since it's less than 1/2 the price WITH a fully functional carry system. SO close.

@@charlescollier7217 G'day Charles, yep the 801 and Hussar are compelling folders alright, I could have easily gone that way too, I did want the 801 in black/grey in particular, but out of stock at the time, and I put that dough "towards" lol, a drop point Recon 1 in S35, .... but I did end up with their 108 and 105 "Fang', and gotta say the Fang is the best "inexpensive" folder I've ever had the pleasure of using. In any case, yes there's always nuances that can be improved upon, though I reckon we both agree, many of their 14C designs are genuine bang for buck winners. Cheers Duke.

That is a great looking folder, I like the pocket clip and it looks to be of hearty construction. I appreciate the extra safety lock on it as I would normally avoid frame lock folders but this one looks great. Thanks for sharing Mark!

As I remember it, it was canada customs or canada post that just decided to re-interpret the laws on knives, and stopped the importation. To me, that was a bit of a scandal that few paid any attention to. Especially when you consider you can go to Canadian tire and buy flipper box cutters for $10. Thanks for pointing out a Canadian company. I’ll check ‘em out to see if they have any lighter ones.

it was Canada Customs who imposed the importation ban. It is not in the Criminal Code as prohibited like spring or gravity operated knives are. It is not illegal to sell or own them, just to import then. Yet, they are being imported and sold by a number of companies. Go figure

@@MarkYoungBushcraft Well I don’t think they have the right to interpret Canadian law, which is what they did. Perhaps that’s why they aren’t enforcing it very well, but I know a lot of stores had to stop selling them. At least I got a pretty sweet knife with a sort of hook on the blade, so that if you draw it a certain way, it hooks your pants and pops open by itself, for super cheap when stores got scared and sold everything off.

G'day Mark, very fancy, fair to say, this mob do a lot of great value designs. Yes this ones very different in some ways, but I can immediately see the heritage from my P108-SF. Yeah, the Beta lock doesn't need to be there, .... the frame lock is very solid and well tuned ....... but it is, ... ok whatever, lol. Personally I'd save it for a design where the locking mechanism was easy to disengage accidentally. Alternatively, have it the other way around so the blade couldn't come open in the pocket, ..... but even then, their detents are so good I couldn't see that happening either. It seems that flippers are somewhat out of fashion, (for some unknown reason, surely it cant simply be because of legalities in some parts), .......it's far and away the best one handed deployment method IMO. FYI, its only autos/assisted that are illegal here in oz, which I dont have anymore than a passing interest in anyway, especially considering the two Ruikes that I have are on bearings, (I assume this one is too ?). You'd be hard pressed to measure the deployment speed difference between them and an auto, they really are that slick, when properly maintained, must be only a small fraction of a second ......and of course without the extra cost/complexity ...... and yep I'm with ya mate, ...... a far more satisfying fidget factor ; ) Cheers Duke.

I have quite a few folders in my collection but have stopped buying them due to the Customs seizing many of them when. Mostly, am not a fan of flippers because they often don't feel right in my hand. This one is different. Thanks for commenting Duke

I've stopped buying them too, but because I've enough, (a few dozen), I could have easily got away with 4 or 5, or one for that matter, lol, but mainly because I'm using fixies far more often. Always good to see an appealing design though.

That's one pretty knife you showed here, I like the decorative milling on the scales. Ruike seems to make decent stuff. I only have one thus far, the Trekker and I like it a lot. 😊Like you Mark, I also have a large collection of knives and I'm a fellow Canadian as well; I collect all kinds of different knives too. As far as the knife laws are concerned here in Canada, my understanding is that flippers are completely legal to own and carry as per how it's actually defined in the Criminal Code, however the CBSA seems to make up their own rules that are outside of the scope of the written law.👍Thanks very much for touching on that subject in this video, I appreciate it. I have lost a few folding knives to the CBSA. I presented a case for them but was denied. I won't risk buying from out of country now because of the risk. Funny that some dealers still sell them in Canada. Thanks for commenting

IKR? Some of the restrictions not only don't make sense, but are unsafe to boot. I watch another reactor from GB who reviews EDC stuff, and the things he has to put up with in a knife are just crazy to me. While I can understand (intellectually) the reasons for a blade length restriction - less than 3" only? Too short for many camping/bushcrafting needs. And he can't have a blade that locks open? What sense does that make? It just means the knife is susceptible to closing on something it's not supposed to - like your finger! And if the blade can be flipped open 1 handed, it's also illegal. So you have to use 2 hands to open the blade, even in situations where you don't have a hand free? This knife would be illegal on all 3 counts - and I'm sure there are more restrictions I'm not aware of. SMDH

That is a nice looking knife, but you are going to be looking at a "Weapons Dangerous" charge if you were caring it in Toronto. As I mentioned one before I was advised by the Toronto police that you should not use a knife in public that you can open one handed. I mentioned this to a friend who is a Lawer and he said although the knife i had was not illegal being charged and defending it would be "interesting" Interesting being law talk for expensive, so I make sure that if anyone is looking I use two hands.

You have raised a key point on legalities. As a police officer for 36 years I know where the Toronto officers are coming from. It is very situational. Owning the knife is not the issue, it is about where you are and what you are doing at the time. "Weapon Dangerous" is a catch-all that can define anything from a rock to a ballpoint pen as a weapon depending on what the intent is at the time. Great discussion
