I’ll admit that I cringed a bit. I was waiting for actual damage to be caused. But I’m glad to see that the install happened to go well, and it doesn’t look too bad.

The manufacturer should really have the "catch" mechanisms already integrated in the hood. Then the consumer just has to install the pins.

I actually had a carbon hood fly up and it shattered my windshield, dented the f out of my roof and destroyed my hood, had to go to local pep boys and buy a cheap set of pins just to make it home. The latch actually broke off. I was about 3 hours away. If you ever experience something like this doing 80mph on the interstate, you’ll fully grasp why hood pins are a must,

I have read and seen that hood pins are a throw back to the old days of racing and recommended with lighter hoods be they CF or other as a safety precaution. Intuitively it makes sense also. Regardless you are stuck with them now, fully committed; but for what it is worth I think they look sharp.

whats the point to have hood pins when you still have to pop the hood ???
@lilhazardx24354 жыл бұрын
The latches that come with aftermarket hoods are know to fail while driving after some time and could potentially fail and smash into you windshield while driving. Hood pins are a preventative measure so that never happens.
@CarsWithJR4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for explaining that! 100% true. 👌

ive been 145 in my 15 wrx hundreds of times on the autobahn in the last few years and still never seen the hood even wobble like my old chevy. So I would say these concerns arent that valid. The stock hood and latch are sufficient

These looks at least as good as aerocatch but are waaay easier to install. One 20 mmm (0.079 inch) hole is all you need. www.speeding.nu/p/interior-exterior/exterior/push-clips/hurricane-push-clips-snabblas-315mm-svart.html
@CarsWithJR4 жыл бұрын
It will not work due to the angle of the hood. Those latches need to be vertical in order to catch/lock. In fact, I tried that exact same latch first before I swapped to aerocatch.
@mattiasandersson34444 жыл бұрын
@@CarsWithJR I have the same VIS- carbonhood you have and it works just fine. I use those on my VIS-carbonhood ( same modell as you) and the angle is far away from a problem. Hurricane dont need to be straight to catch like the aerocatch need. If you have tried it and it dont work it was a bad copy:) for that is the whole menaing of Hurricane, that the angel dont need to be 90 degress between the hood and bolt. I tried aerocatch to first but i thought it was to much work. I can level Hurricane almost 30 degres and it stil catch the "probehead" on the bolt. I mounted them in my hood and the angle is just 10-20 degres. I also tried it before i mount it and it worked equal good in all levels between 0 - 20-30 degres. But i mount my a bit longer back then you. Maybe thats is the difference.

Drives me crazy you keep calling carbon fiber fiberglass.
@nubmikeyz65214 жыл бұрын
Most carbon fiber hoods you see is just a fiber glass hood with carbon fiber weave + resin on it. Good prime example is this guy's hood. Its not a 100% carbon fiber hood. As I mentioned above, his hood is a fiber glass hood with a carbon fiber weave layer on top added with resin / clear coat.

That top layer of the hood is too thin for the hood to have them screws going through, later on those small hole will start to spider crack, if I’d do it all over again I would’ve filled inn the hood on where I cut with fiberglass so the top layer & the bottom layer of the hood are supported.
