In this video I show you how I built a ruined tower and barracks for my Mordheim board!
The inspiration for this build came from one of ‪@EricsHobbyWorkshop‬ old videos! 👍💙💛💙
Mordheim and Warhammer the Old World struck a chord with me as a young man and I have decided to come back to Mordheim over 20 years after its original release!
If you want to check out some more wargaming terrain tutorials for D&D, Warhammer or Mordheim then have a look at my library of tutorial videos! And remember to always have fun! 👍💙💛💙

o7 career carpenter here, the name of the joint you where using for the timbers in the main building is called a Lap joint, either half lap or full lap depending on if the beams carry on past each other after the joint. Excellent build, I'm always jealous of your ability to paint such large areas so well. I know its a collection of fairly basic techniques, but my brain is used to painting itty bitty minis at high levels of detail and just seizes up when i try to transfer that to large projects lol

all your buildings look fantastic! but there is one thing that comes to my mind when i see ruined houses on mordheim boards: why are they ruined!? the town wasnt besieged, was it? and before the meteor everything was as ok as it could be in a warhammer town. i think it would be a great terrain piece, even centerpiece of a board to have a fragment of the meteor that crushed into the city and teared a giant groove into the earth leaving only shattered fragments what once was houses just to stop rolling and remain lying to not crush a statue of our holy saviour Sigmar. the buildings right next to it are only crumbled stone fundaments and parts of the black charred wooden joist skelett. the ember is still glowing. scatter terrain can be rubble stones, piles of fallen down roofshingles and wood rubble (that could still be on fire). of course you know that there could be fully intact houses in the city and we all know that you cant play inside of the if the didnt somehow lose at least one wall :P so i say, why not go the other way. it can allways get worse right? "the pit" itself i imagine to big and crazy for a single board and is no place to go and come back alive for a normal sane warband anyway. well, my imagninary friend, who has a lot more time, wealth, free time and above all motivation than i do, plans to do all that in a far distant future and additionally a warband themed terrain piece for every standart warband, like a mausleum with a little graveyard or the outer edge of a monastery that could dominate respectively one side of the board. i dont want to criticize you in any way. you have a unique style that was made for this game and im looking forward to every next video. i just wanted to share an idea and maybe it ignites somebodys imagination :P
@DevsDice
@DevsDice Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the ideas and perspectives Skanga! I do not take this as criticism at all so no worries. The thing I have against more bespoke boards is that one tends to lose the dynamic nature of placing terrain but I have to admit that you gave me a few ideas of future terrain projects! So thank you for that! 👍😃

Noooo, Leif. Please tell me you didn’t put masses of rubble under still-walkable floors? Did the collapsing rubble teleport when it got to the wood flooring and then rematerialize beneath it? It can still be “fixed”, if you remove all those beams and planks at the bottom floor, exposing the rubble. The tumbled blocks (not bricks) can be used to cover whatever planks you find difficult to remove.

My only quibble, is that your boards are too uniform. Most of the time floor planks are offset of each other. You did break them to show where they would end but you're not gonna have 20-30ft long boards without any breaks in them. Scale wise they are gonna be more like 10-20ft and staggered. I usually put boards that have fallen out or broken off in a floor under. Meaning your rubble should include your broken wood, roof shingles, maybe a few bodies, in addition to the bricks. Other than that it's a good looking build I need to get back to my own mordheim board.

This is a work of art worthy of the halls of GW itself. I still maintain that doing all those small bricks has got to tear at one's sanity. But if this is insanity, sign me up. I hear you're corrupting Alex@52Miniatures in the way of the Mordheim too. Heap on the warp stone! :D

Hahahaha! Thank you so much Clyde Dashing! You honor me with that comment my good Sir! 👍😊 Yeah the individual bricks can be a pain but it is also very therapeutic to lay them down one-by-one! Hahaha! Yeah we had a coffee the other day and I offered to introduce him to the game! Hope to make that a reality soon! 👍😂

Love the build but am confused what the spackling is for. Is it to seal everything or to add texture? Glad I found this channel, subscribed right away.
@DevsDice
@DevsDice Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Warcraftmaster! The spackle does a couple of things: it adds a nice brighter mortar between bricks, it adds a kind of "powdered" look which I appreciate. And as you mentioned, it does provide some sealing and hardness which is a bonus! Hope that helps! 👍😅 Also, welcome to the channel Warcraftmaster! 👍💙💛💙

Fantastic build, I really enjoyed the flat construction and how it came together wrapping around the foundation. I liked the timber joints, I must be strange because I got a little thrill from that tiny piece of joinery. Lovely tower, what a wreck, I bet all the wizards, snipers, lookouts, and assassins, have an eye on that .. everyone loves a ruined tower.

Awesome build Leif 👍 I love the build that Eric did and I think that you may have one upped him with this one!! Not that it’s a competition though because as every good mercenary in Mordheim knows, everyone has their chance to shine and around every corner Morr awaits to hold them in his eternal embrace 💀

The way you built the collapsed ground floor gave me an idea, for how to make a basement that is connected to some underground tunnels. This could also include risers that are either hollow, or designed some other way to incorporate tunnels.

@@DevsDice Apologies, that was just a really old and really bad pun on my part. When we say something is ajar it means open, right? And we preserve stuff in jars. Also, I will never fault a non-, English speaker on speaking English, since it is one of the hardest languages to learn, especially with: read & red, read & reed, and complete sentences like "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo". Even I have trouble with my native language because of those.
