If I remember my vamp lore right Vlad looks like that because all vampires kinda look like that as their "true form" if you will due to heavy vampiric corruption (who would have guessed) and most go to some effort to conceal this with magic for one reason or another. However, Vlad respects power above all and while he could hide his appearance he honestly just does not care to

That is the look of vampires when they "release the beast within". Vlad is capable of turning into a giant direwolf as well as a bat. the Vampire Wars novels give some insight to it. Same for Manfred. They were both described as looking similar to each other and being of aquiline features with black hair. Of course this is before either of them is defeated during their respective campaigns against the Empire, so maybe there resurrection could have done something permanent to their appearance that I am not aware of.

For those curious, it seems the lords traits do transfer to each other. As in, Vlad (hero) transfers vanguard deployment to Isabella's (lord) army. Also Izzy starts with a Varghulf instead of Blood Knights. Edit: Also, whoever is the hero starts with all their items. Vlad (hero) has both the Blood Drinker and the Carstein Ring.

Vlad and Isabella are my go to power couple as well. So nice that he finally gets Castle Drakenhof from the beginning. Love the new city fights with the Gothic look. So much more interesting to fight the Undead Civil War in Sylvania now.

I play Vampires strictly for the raise dead mechanic. A large enough pile of corpses puts your army generation/regeneration on a level other factions can't hope to match.

The Warriors of Chaos new Warband recruitment mechanic is essentially raise dead. Raise Dead is now based off a combination of vampiric corruption level and battle markers from massive death in the area, where as the Warband mechanic is based on amount and types of chaos corruption in an area and the terrain types (for example mountain areas with a lot of undivided chaos corruption have high chances of offering Dragon Ogres).

I would love to see a more lore friendly rework of them where by army size and unit costs is directly tied to necromancy skill. So an Vampire Army consist of few Vampires and Necromancers and everything else is chaff that is directly attached to these Necromancers/Vampires. They could reuse the Lord/Army system from Three Kingdoms but with customization Unit composition.

Isabella as lord with vlad as hero might be my first campaign. Early making insane bat swarms and later maybe give kemmler vlad to make the best cairn wraiths possible and finally have some beast spells in different army's. 👻

@@RuinousInsight imo, Vlad's campaign bonuses are nowhere near as good as Isabella's, and both get their lord bonuses while in battle so... You still get vanguard deployment either way, but Izzy gets those extra, and more powerful, vamp ladies.

I have a question on casters in an army. Should you have more than one character who can cast in one army since they use the same magic pool? You can cast 2 spells back to back, but you burn through winds and reserves faster. I never knew what the best option was. So with vampire counts I would put a necro in Vlad’s army and not give Vlad magic.

In WH3 due to the winds of magic nerfs and nerfs to characters skills and items it is usually only worth having 1 magic user unless you need multiple casters to cover different types of magic (i.e. a healing caster and a damage caster in an army) Multiple casters no longer provide you with more magic just faster speed of your limited reserve being added to your usable amount. Some factions have mechanics where multiple casters in an army provide a boost to spell intensity (a new mechanic that applies a multiplier boost to spell damage) nut in most cases it's not worth. In the case of vampire counts, if your wanting a vampire hero doomstack which is a common thing when playing Isabella you'd just build up the casting lines of Isabella for Lore of Vampires, one each of Shadow and Death on the heroes and then spec the rest out to be full melee. although eventually just do to the higher skill cap the heroes will end up with all skills anyway. In the case of the new Vlad campaign you could focus melee on him and casting on Isabella.

I wouldn't discount having multiple units for item use, especially anything that adds power reserve. Some mage heroes have stacking buffs that are quite powerful, too, that makes it worth it to bring more than one. That said, from purely a casting perspective, for most factions I would only bring one mage. Vamp heroes are extremely strong, however, so they have a leg up on other casters. More the exception than the rule.

It looks like you have to have Vampires of the Coast DLC to get the Mournguls. I don't have that DLC and I don't see Mournguls on Tree. I really wish they would they would put DLC requirements on the Units like they do the Lords. Vargheists are very similar anyway but it seems silly to require that DLC for Mourguls.

Most definitely not certain. That said, when bats are hovering over the tower if you watch the damage it can drop down to 0, which doesn't feel right. And the trickle is way too little.

I take Waldenhof after the first settlement and vassal them. Thats best way to avoid extra mistakes AI controls armies on Legendary difficulty n they recruit a lot of units surely them being an AI.. yup helps a lot their armies arent as strong as yours against other legendary lords but they surely do keep your enemies back especially when your fighting dwarfs a lot of help really

So, if Isabella starts as a lord when you play as Vlad, what happens if you're not playing as a vamp? Specifically, the trait for killing Vlad/Isabella, how would that work if only 1 is a lord? If the other is a hero in a battle, does killing them get you the trait? What if they're not put in an army by the AI?!

I assume you only get the defeat trait for the lord - and not the hero at all. I don't recall getting Isabella's trait last time I encountered Vlad as an enemy lord.

Hum before you could have free zombies in Warhammer 2, it was the way to go. Now you seems to be able to make skeleton and ghouls more viable. I like the change that I have seen so far. Can wait to play and conquer the immortal empire!

That's what I was looking for, proper Von Carstein content. They still need DLC I am glad CA buffed certain units, nerfed Bloodlines unfortunately. I hope Vampire Counts will get Bloodlines DLC same as Chaos champions, with new rework, remodeling/retexturing some old stuff, new tech tree and mechanics, most of all new models for Bloodlines.

the towers fall to the charge buff rather quick. Charge, do your damage and back off to charge again. Rinse and repeat. Well, let me clearify. The bats attack bonus is pretty low meaning it cant hurt a tower. Swing and miss so to speak. With the Charge Attack buff, the bats can take out towers pretty quick. Makes sense really, towers would not be worth building if bats could just tear them apart with no effort. With the micro management, makes the towers a little more worth building.

Does vlad count as an embedded VAMPIRE hero? Because if he does then not starting as isabella is stupid. 25% damage for vlad + the two embedded in her army effects for melee and I think it was defence.

Please do your best to confederate Ghorst as soon as possible. His skill tree buffs for zombies are all faction wide and make zombies into ridiculously overpowered units which means you can spam out cheap zombie stacks to handle all your territory defense and taking out minor factions while Vlad handles the more important/flavorful objectives.
