Ruins on the River Wey

Exploring ancient ruins on the River Wey by kayak. Taking in Newark Priory and Woking Palace, this is one of my favourite out-and-back paddle routes. It's steeped in history and in such a beautiful setting.

Lovely, absolutely lovely. I would love to have such a (or just any) body of water nearby to do some frequent paddling in the afternoon or on weekends! PS The entire landscape is incredibly beautiful. Taking a walk there or some bike riding would be balsam for my soul

@@StevieWyatt it would be the River Kennet which can be very calming and beautiful especially the newbury canal side of it, if you wanted someone to make the trip with you or even just do wild camping il be happy to be company as despite being local I am still yet to travel the river by kayak but instead walk it

Thanks very much Andres. Most people become a member of the organisation British Canoeing. It's only £45 a year and gives you a licence to paddle on pretty much all of the UK's inland waterways. I keep my membership card lashed to my lifejacket; occasionally a lock-keeper or waterways operative will ask to see it.

Great video Stevie found your channel when looking for reviews of the X500 then saw your source to estuary series on the Thames, Which one kayak would you use if you were to do another source to estuary video the X500 or your Jive?

Thanks very much Alexander. That's a good question. When I did the Thames in my Jive I didn't have a kayak trolley which made it really difficult. Doing it again in the Jive with a trolley and without a bad back I reckon I could complete it in half the time. I'd also consider doing it in the X500.. I've met some other X500 paddlers who have done large stretched of the Thames and really enjoyed it. The Jive is quicker, but with the X500 I could take the train and not have the logistical headache of where to put the car etc.

Flat, calm water such as the canals or man made navigations such as the Wey featured in this video. The British Canoeing website is also really helpful for tips and beginner advice, and has some recommended paddle routes organised by level of ability
