So I started watching battle rap when kotd was on the rise. I did watch a few grindtime battles, but I always wondered why they stopped hosting battles. Also I hear Mad Illz’s name being throw around about this topic, is there a reason why?

NoCanDo won this. Quality over quantity. Diz may have had more absolute lines that the crowd felt (he didn't really, but even if he did), but that's because he rapped for like twice the time Nocan did. Nocando had a much cleaner performance. Also imo Nocan's lines and angles were flames, no matter what the crowd thought at the time. Even at his best Diz's whole angle was weak ("you're a black guy who acts white!").

Here's the thing... I always felt when I watched this battle back then, if they respected time limits it would've been Nocan 2-1. But when you watch the 1st & 3rd, Diz was allowed to rap like an extra minute where he was able to cram in a couple more multi's of material which definitely added a longer impression, but if he was simply cut off at time I think it'd easily have seemed like Nocan won. This is why Diz would never beat him in a freestyle battle over a beat, he couldn't deal with getting cut off

Nocando won. Nocan had a higher ratio of good rapping to the amount of time he rapped. Quality over quantity. Diz had good shit but it took too long to get to the good stuff, spread out over more time.

stap cappin yall nocan clean sweep lmaoo AND he was going off top way more than diz. not that freestyling automatically gives him the edge, it's just a case of super clean, creative, impressive frees vs. all over the place writtens with a few bright spots. plus nocan's angles and character breakdowns hit way harder than diz's "you're a white black guy" bs. i can see how diz would seem like the winner back in that era tho
