Without doubt Art Pepper is among my major "influencers" in playing the alto saxophone. Actually, his style is what I aspire to sound like, infused with my own. I just love the music of this great jazz artist. May his "art" be "peppered" for always. In this jazz giant I believe.

Yes. Pepper is in a class by himself. All the musicians were brilliant. George Cables piano was exceptional.

Je crois que Art Pepper est l'un des "most underrated artists" du jazz (ses histoires de drogue, je ne sais pas). Mais sa musique lui survit tant bien que mal. J'ai eu la chance de le voir à Vienne (France) en juillet 1981. J'avais le menton sur la scène et il a fait "Ophélia" en rappel. Un de mes plus beaux souvenirs de concert, tous styles confondus… Thanks, Art.

Ses histoires de drogue ? comme il était loin d'être le seul, je ne pense pas. En revanche, pour beaucoup d'amateurs de jazz de l'époque et notamment en France, il n'avait pas la bonne couleur de peau... 😞

This sounds like Art after he got out of San Quentin after his stay for a drug bust. I saw him at Shelly’s Manne Hole in Hollywood in the early sixties after he was released and was shocked that he sounded like Coltrane who he had been listening to during his stay. You can hear that with a little Ornette!
