Think on what he says to BG9 and Cang Du and what english words start with a B that may match what he says and what is showed. You have everything you need to figure it out. === This is why I've always referred to Rukia's Sode no Shirayuki as a Cold-type not an Ice-type Zanpakuto with the snow and ice as a byproduct. I just could never bring myself to deliberately mislabel something though in my defense it's something I had long figured out about before the manga spelled it out which means that others could figure it out as well so I didn't have a problem talking about it as long as I kept it vague. === To explain Äs' flashback since the anime truncated it a bit: During the time Äs was alive, he survived an unknown incident which left him bedridden and hospitalized; leaving him to the belief that living was painful. Remembering what he had been taught about heaven and hell, he hoped to go to heaven where it would not be painful, but he was afraid of going to hell, where everything would be even more painful. At his deathbed, he was approached by Yhwach, who offered him power as a Quincy. Now a Soul, Äs would join the Wandenreich as a Sternritter, pledging his loyalty to Yhwach. === Äs Nödt's Vollständig: Tatarforas (タタルフォラス, Tataruforasu; Japanese for "Afraid of God"; Viz "Fear of God") Äs' appearance is the result of Tatarforas enhancing The Fear to the point that it transforms Äs into a physical incarnation of Fear, a manifestation of his fear of shaming Yhwach who had saved his life. === I love that Byakuya's training with Squad Zero was just gaining greater control and the ability to form more solid constructs at a greater scale with Senbonzakura (to the point of his Shikai being mistaken for his Bankai by Äs) but with this I'd say that if anything happens to Shunsui that Byakuya would be the best candidate to replace him. === Hakka no Togame (白霞罸, Censure of the White Haze; Viz "White Haze Punishment") Bankai Special Ability: Hakka no Togame increases the area of influence of Rukia's ability to reach the temperature of absolute zero. Upon release, a pillar of cold mist rises up into the air from where Rukia is. Raising her blade towards her opponent, Rukia releases a massive wave of freezing cold (similar to Tsugi no mai, Hakuren) that freezes anything in its path to absolute zero. Physical contact with Rukia herself causes other people to begin freezing solid due to how cold her body is. A Bankai befitting the most beautiful Zanpakuto in Soul Society plus I love that in lieu of the ending animation, Endroll is instead played over the conclusion of Rukia's battle against Äs. Fun Fact: Rukia's outfit in Bankai is the same outfit the spirit of Sode no Shirayuki wears. I will say though that this _may_ be the one exception to my opinion of characters using their Bankai before they master it. Hakka no Togame is just so powerful that few would even survive its activation which means the only danger would be someone attacking Rukia before she can slowly warm herself. === Fun Fact: In the second best bout poll, Äs' fight with Rukia ranked 3rd.

I love how her bankai release combines all of her shikai's named techniques and amplifies them, while still leaving room for her to grow via learning to move and fight while in that state (rather than being a frozen statue). Given her Shirafune technique replaces her severed blade with an ice one, her Bankai could likely close her wounds and replace lost limbs.

Yea as other commenter said, all the zanpakuto spirits shown in the rebellion arc were designed by Kubo himself and are the canon designs for the spirits, it's just the content of the arc itself which isn't canon. Though even that is only because Kubo couldn't figure out a good place to fit the arc in, the arc was something he wanted to do but couldn't find a spot to put it with everything going on during the arrancar saga.

Hitsugaya might have more overall power and flexibility with his ice, but i feel like Rukia has far more raw lethality. How often does Hitsugayas ice just trap his opponent? Its just surrounding them. But Rukia freezes them to the core.

Yeah, Rukia's zanpakutou revolves around low temperatures going as low as absolute zero. While Toshiro manipulates moistures to ice, being able to freely control the volume and power. Making him more versatile over all than Rukia despite lacking the lethality.
