Mr. Rothery is so unique in his approach and sound. Every note is pure joy. A person cannot make the sounds of heaven without love in their heart. Music that brings a tear to the eye and flight to the soul. The sounds of life and passion. Thanks for the beautiful music! It helped me through cancer recovery twice. Love and respect, Bill

I feel they have a very similar approach - both of them are story tellers through their fingers. Both of them construct their solo's as a story to tell, complete with prologue, main story line, leading up to a massive conclusion and finally redemption. Also both are giving the solo its place but it is still in service of the song, not the reason for the song. There are very few who can do that, for me Steve and David are standing high and proud.

Yeah man, I had to press pause because I wasn't sure that was a Squire. However, that's just not any Squire. That's a Japanese made one of the early 80's. Those are hard to get cause if the quality. Ironically, another famous prog guitarist plays Squire, the CHEAP ones! anyone can get from Guitar Center Mike Rutherford of Genesis.

I disagree. I think with an audience and fan base that stretches across the globe he's very much appreciated. He may not get the accolades he should but Marillion and prog in general is a niche market and goes largely unrecognised I think. There is something very special about Marillion and for sure Rothery is the bee's knees. I use the term loosely, but his style is simple, never over technical, his sound flows and you move with it.

There are some great guitar players you recognize immediatley because of their sound, like Brian May or Mark Knopfler. And Steve Rothery. His solos are very emotinal, i like most the one from Easter.

I feel blessed, I have seen Marillion now probably every year since 1985, yes with Fish on the mic too, for me Marillion has always been about the music, it reaches into my soul, I don’t get those who only like the Fish era or those who only like H, they are both amazing performers, H for me personally is the better singer, Fish occasionally had a bad gig vocally, I don’t recall ever seeing a gig with H where he has had a tough night with his voice, but I love them both and I love this band, simply incredible live, for those who have yet to see them live I envy you as you will have that first time amazing experience that is a distant memory for me, go see them and be moved by their music.

When Fish was in Marillion Steve Rothery's solo's were much longer. I love Fish's solo work and both era's of Marillion.

Thanks for this! Rothery's solos, unlike those of many others, serve the song as a whole, they aren't for him just a way to show off. The most impressive for me of these was that on Easter.

@@bobmck7301 with all due respect guys I love Fish (4 out of 18 albums) era too and always will but Marillion has much more history with Steve. I'm 49 y old and I witnessed Fish leaving the band and it took me also quite a time to "accept" how brilliant new Marillion is, for sure as good as they've always been.

Was lucky enough (thanks to a friend when i was 17 -in 85) to discover Marillion with Misplaced , then Clutching. A Great discovery. Saw them live then, and one of the best concert i've seen. I gave up when Fish left (maybe not a good choice ;-) ) Maybe i should see them live again ;-)
