What got you interested in learning backgammon? I’d love to hear your story!

This is a really fun game for me. I (think) got it at a thrift store many decades ago - just out of curiosity. So I learned to play. We (hubby and I) played it quite often when we were younger. Maybe I'll get back into it again. Thanks for reminding me. Yea, I still have that same board!

I keep seeing backgammon sets for cheap at thrift stores and want to buy, but never knew how to play or get good instructions. Thank you for this well-made (with great sound and diction) easy to understand video

My advice would be to play a free game online. Use the tutorial mode. I literally played 3 games and won 2 and ive never played Backgammon. lately I've been in the mood for playing classic strategy games, Not sure why lol.

Thanks for the awesome comment! Thrift stores are such a fun way to score a set-nothing like a vintage set for a vintage game! For me, there’s nothing better than playing in person. The clack of the chips on the table? Perfect.👌

Hi. I'm iranian and we have a rule in this game which i haven't seen tutorial mention it. I was wondering if it's an official worldwide rule or is it something we iranians do. The rule says: if my opponent has a blot IN MY HOME AREA. I can't take that checker and move my piece. If i take that checker i have to stay at that spot and use my other pieces for my other move. If my other pieces can't make the move I'll have to forfeit my turn. I think this rule makes the game way more fun as it makes playing aggressively way more risky and also helps with endgame comebacks. Is anyone familiar with this rule?
@John_Smith_DumfuggАй бұрын
Never heard that rule playing in America, it must be regional. I just got my sister a new board for Christmas, we'll have to try it out! Thanks!

Love your videos, and I’m happy to see more classic tabletop games explained in Rulies style! Do you have any plans to cover parcheesi or cribbage? Those are a couple classic games that I always have trouble remembering how to play. Thanks for the great vids! I’m looking forward to seeing your next one 🙂

Thanks for the video. I have a question about bearing off: If you have one checker outside of your home board on the 20 point, and roll a double-5, can you bear off on that same move? In this scenario, since you move according to the rule of doubles, you play each die twice correct? So one-5 becomes 10 and the second makes 20 total points possible for a single checker? So 15 would bring this checker to the 5 spot and since it was the last checker outside the home board and is now inside, it can bear off? Thank you in advance
@Rulies8 күн бұрын
Here’s how I interpret it and play at my house: Yes, you can bear it off! Great question, let's break down why I say that: The official rules (USBGF and WBGF) state: "Once a player has moved all fifteen checkers into their home board, they may commence bearing off." There's no rule requiring you to wait for the next turn or to have all checkers inside at the start of your turn. Think of it this way: When you roll double 5s, you're not combining them into two 10s but treating them as four 5s. Assuming no blocks, after three moves of 5, your last checker is in the home board, and you can bear off on the fourth move.
@jayroo718 күн бұрын
@ Thank you for the quick reply. When you say, “assuming no blocks”, do you mean that if, in my scenario, the opponent has two or more checkers on any of those “5’s” (15 & 10 spot, say) the move cannot be completed? If so, what about if they have a blot (1 checker) on the 10 point? Can the move be made all the way to the 5 point and then off? Does the Hit checker go to the bar or do you just pass over it? Thanks again. This has been fun to learn.

Backgammon is the most beautiful game. The simplicity of checkers, the strategy of chess, and the cut throat betting of Texas Hold Em all held together by the cruel, cruel dice of Street Craps. No other game quite mirrors the feeling in life of being forced by fate to take a risky move and hoping it all pans out.
@PatricioGarcia197318 күн бұрын
they play it for money too. Went to NYC and people were playing it and kept tabs for money lost or won in each game

I don't even remember when I learned how to play, but it's been quite awhile ago when I was just a kid. I don't have a partner to play at home so I go online. I'm not great at too many games, but I usually can beat online champions and they'll always accuse me of cheating despite being a computer where cheating doesn't work. It's just one of the games that my brain can see really well. 😂
