When I was a teenager in FFA tractor shop, we used a belt to start a little, four banger, gas engine Case. It fired over and ran away until the float bowl ran dry. It threw flaming pecan shells and mouse nests into the rafters for a solid thirty seconds. It was awesome. I'm sure the smoke alone took years off my life.

***** How many hp is this machine?
@Rainhill18299 жыл бұрын
Zane Wv Thirty drawbar, sixty flywheel. Although Rumely always underrated their engines, its probably more like 35-70.
@Zanewv9 жыл бұрын
***** Not bad, Are these similar to hit and miss engines?
@Rainhill18299 жыл бұрын
Zane Wv They would probably be considered an advancement on the design, although they would commonly run side by side. These engines where fairly advanced for their day, they used fly ball governed throttles and had fairly advanced mixers, the predecessor to the carburetor. Very smooth runners, great for threshing. The engine would automatically adjust it's throttle according to load, all the driver had to do was input the RPM he wished it to run at, the fly balls did the rest.

Had it just not been maintained in the previous 10+ years? It looks like there's another green traction engine parked right behind it in the same stall, and obviously a black Hart-Parr tractor beside it. Do those 2 run as well? Are you guys rebuilding all these tractors? That would be ideal(time and money considered).

Most all of the tractors in this pole shed are operational, however some lack a "dedicated caretaker" or have not had one in years and are awaiting a volunteer to take over their care.

Here's a dumb question, but watching other oil pulls start, it appears your spinning it backwards, I would just assume all rumley rotated the same way
@Rainhill18297 жыл бұрын
You are right, some models had a different rotation direction. It would seem when the company switched to engine designs with 90 degree crank profiles they also decided to reverse the rotation of the engine, maybe to bring them inline with most other manufacturers. Good eye.
