I actually liked the game when it came out. Maybe because I’ve not been exposed to the marketing much. I heard a thing or two about it and then just picked it up. Anyway, thanks for the video, mate. I appreciate your work, please keep them coming.

As a lad I found it to be the height of hilarity to take off my character's clothes, eat until he had a pudgy belly and then run around Bowerstone breaking windows and escaping the guards, then doing it again until my character was evil enough that flies buzzed around him. I would then go on to puke, barf, fart and flip the bird at innocent passers-by with impunity. I did this for more hours than I am willing to admit. Jack of Blades' original voice was very soothing to me. I loved that guy the moment he showed up.

I love this game. This game along with KOTOR 2 are the reasons I fell in love with RPGs.

Yeah I play Fable 2 and Kotor 2 as a child or as I grew up, let's put it that way. But I never played the first games in either of of those series until later on where I was like probably around 16 to 18 range maybe earlier and it was so disappointing because everyone hyped up the original games and then when I went to play it I realize just how much better the sequels were. I'm not saying they're bad games it's just the sequels did it improved on everything that came before it which is what a sequel should do. like I just start I just started playing Fable 1 anniversary earlier this year but then I dropped it because I got Final Fantasy 15 and then Summer started where I had to get a new job. but I still haven't completed it Like Fable 1 is fun but it's just I don't know I feel like I enjoy the combat more than the story.

Loved the game as a kid, loved playing through the remastered a few years ago. Hoping Microsoft starts turning Fable around, lots of lore left to be discovered. The music in this game was excellent, I was shocked you didn't comment on it, especially the Witchwood theme, oh well. Thanks for the video.

100% loved Jacks original voice! I've always said it was way more sinister than the boring deep demon voice in lost chapters. It's the same voice actor as Dolmagus from DQ8. Always enjoy your take on things. I was a kid when Fable came out and I was completely enthralled by the world but I honestly couldn't argue with any of your points! Great job as always!

I’ll agree it’s definitely a basic story. I did like however, after a few replays, noticing that jack of blades can be seen in the background scenes in the introduction, despite having no mention in narration and little focus in the cutscene. Indeed, it does show a red robed man plunging a dagger into the back of your father, that man being Jack

I played this game for the first time a few summers ago. Usually with old games I never have played I tend to play them a little and put them down. But with Fable I couldn't put it down even though it wasn't all that amazing. There was something about the game that teleported me back to the mid 2000s.

I’ll go ahead and say this: I’ve never played Fable, but the hype got me super interested in it. A part of me is curious about badly it lived up to this hype, another part of me wants to believe in the hype it generated. Maybe 20 years from now, a new game can deliver what Fable promised.

Yeah, I can really empathize with the mindset of making a game somewhat easy to allow players to experiment. Game difficulty is like an arrow. The easier it is, the more options you have (which is the base of the arrow and has the most breadth). The harder a game is, the more it requires specific strategies, aka _optimal_ strategies, which we also see in pvp games and gives us the least amount of options, often only having _one_ correct method (this part being the point of the arrow, which is the most narrow).
@DIEGhostfish2 жыл бұрын
Ah but after 1, the difficulty drop felt like it was there to prevent softlocking while also forcing you to use the autosave system for "consequences"

I have really good memories playing this game with my brother growing up. It has issues; the piss easy difficulty being the main instigator. But is also has a unique atmosphere that I've never seen in any game franchise since. Like a true fairy tail brought to life and a sort of monty python esque humor.
@Wizard_Pikachu6 жыл бұрын
That's why I hope we're going to get a new Fable game sometime soon cuz it had a really truly unique feel to it even though the story and things were not as promised the setting itself out really unique.

One of the hilarious things I do when playing evil is I go to Oalvale general store. Then I go to the precious gems sitting next to the fireplace in the back of the store where the shopkeep can't see. Then I steal the gem and sell it back to him, where he puts it back where it was before. Then I steal it and sell it back again until I'm filthy rich. That's if I don't want to pick up rubies at the ancient cullis gate from all the spontaneously generated earth trolls there...

It's been a long time since I last played Fable, so I may be doing it a disservice, but I can't help but suspect that one reason for the low difficulty is because at higher difficulty the cracks in the combat system would stop being quirks you could ignore/work around, and start being serious problems that make the game unpleasant to play. My dim recollection is of a system with a lot of breadth, but not a whole lot of depth.

@0:45 "I paused there to see if that would change anyone's opinion." I rolled my eyes because I knew exactly where you were going with this, as I heard this statement a thousand times before; everyone expected more from Fable 1 because of the promises of Molyneux. It is very normal to feel this way if you were hyped up for Fable pre launch. That said, I remember buying both Fable and Morrowind around the same time when they were both new, as they both claimed to be these "open RPGs where you can do anything you want!" I still remember searching for this "acorn you can plant as a kid that will grow into a tree when you're an adult." Even though it didn't live up to the hype, Fable 1 was still among the better RPGs for its time. @8:04 "The karma system was more cosmetic" My favorite aspect of Fable is how it assigns you an identity. The game really tries to sell you this idea that "you can be whatever you want!" You can dress up your toy doll of a character as a mage, thief, or warrior, and he physically looks different based on your actions. The morality system felt like an extension to this premise, even though your options are very limited in practice. Even today, I can't think of a single game where eating makes you fat, acting like a jerk gives you horns, and increasing your strength stat makes your character look physically stronger. It's a cool idea. @13:12 "This game has the worst escort quest" When I first played this game as a kid, this quest singlehandedly gave me the impression that the game was bigger and deeper than it truly was. I couldn't beat it for the longest time at first, so I went off to do side content until I was strong enough to save both merchants. The rest of the game's difficulty was an enormous disappointment.

I dont like difficulty sliders because they usually just debuff your damage and increase enemy damage. Occasionally it adds more enemies. Id rather either have really good polished single setting experience or a difficulty slider that makes enemies smarter. Expensive, time consuming, and difficult so I dont usually hold it against games to much but I find most difficulty sliders to be very boring and annoying. Taking longer to kill something doesnt make it harder. :/

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure KotoR was the first to have a 'morality bar' system. Pretty sure everything earlier used reputation and opinion systems.

I agree with everything you have said the first 15 minutes so far. The game was astronomically hyped back in the 2000s for those that remember those days, and what came out was considerably less. I expected something like Zelda but with a large living breathing world. What we got was a tiny world with platforming elements and some decent lifesim parts, forgettable characters... When I finished it, I thought the same that I didn|t feel the need to play it again. However, I will eventually as so much time has passed and I have forgotten everything since. What I am personally looking forward to are further advances in Xbox 360 emulation so that we can FINALLY play Fable 2.

One can only dream of the potential this game had. Hell, I bet Peter Molyneux's still dreaming about it to this day. Great video, as always dude! Just as good as the Diablo ones! :) Good to see one based off my favourite game, from years ago. Also, there is a lot of evidence out there to actually back up your point in 4:50. Especially when you consider how many names the original game went through (WishWorld, Project Ego and so on...) EDIT: I totally understand your feeling for using RPGs/MMOs to escape from the troubles in life. I feel like how easily they can captivate you and warp you into their worlds, is what makes them fairly addictive.
@AvariceOverlord6 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, if you want to know how broken the trader quest ACTUALLY IS. You can tell the traders to just wait at the start of the mission, kill all the enemies, then walk back to them and tell them to follow, then go through. Easy.

I thought this was a pretty good rumination, why you gotta always be putting yourself down like that? In particular, I enjoyed hearing your theories on the Court and the presence of magic in Albion, as well as the concept of your title becoming your "name". So if I were inserted into Albion and I happened to save someone from a group of Hobbes, I wouldn't be called Eingradd anymore; I'd be "Hobbe Slayer" or "Rescuer" or whatever. Really like that idea too. I know you probably won't Ruminate on Fable 2 since it's not on PC, but I can hold out hope, right? Right?

So Ace Combat 7 is on the list, but none of the other ones are on the list. I don’t know if you’ve played them in the past but even if you have, they’re certainly worth another look. You of course don’t have to, but I feel there’s a lot more to get out of 7 if you understand the history of world it’s in. I’m playing through Zero, 04, 5, and 6 again myself in preparation.

2 things 1. I recall a rumor that Molyneux specifically told devs working on gameplay "I want anyone to be able to beat this game. I want a disabled child with downs to be able to beat this game." So it was deliberate. The other fable games are just like this. 2. You can turn off the guild masters voice. I didn't know you could do that either, until I replayed it a few years back.

I had so much hype for this game (Project Ego is what I believe it was originally going to be called) and was disappointed when I saw what we got instead. Disappointed but was still able to enjoy it but I was also a kid at the time so if I were to play it now I'd probably enjoy it a little less. I remember Fable 2 being a bit better but ended up liking 3 the most which I believe most people didn't like. To me it seems to be a good Xbox game but just barely an above average game, hopefully the rumors about a new one is true and they actually make something like or better than what old Peter originally sold us on before F1 and make it worth my purchase of the 1X because so far I'm not impressed.

Initially I never played fable but I did play Fable 2 probably a year after its release and I was still pretty young when it happened so when I was playing it I was playing it along side Kotor 2 and those two games kind of solidified my taste and RPGs and storytelling and such and combat and how everything works like that. but I recently got Fable 1 anniversary and it's kind of give me the same Vibe I got with the first coat or game cuz I played the sequels which improve upon what came before it so when you go back to the original games it's like night and day like things are a little bit less polish a little bit less balance and other such things. what are the way I feel like you should do a rumination on Fable 2 but don't even touch Fable 3 don't even touch with a 9-foot pole that game is trash.
