Love how Akai used to put that arm rest pad on stuff. So luxurious.

Me and my lad started to record a cover of the new Beatles Now and Then song yesterday to my trusty 414. I'm enjoying your tear down vid on New Year's day, nice and chilled. Great effort on this.

'Tape-shaggers'....yup that about sums me up. TBH, all my analogue gear has now gone. I'm left with an AKAI MPC Key61 and a mega Quiet PC setup which means I'll never look at another tape machine again. It was fun while it lasted. Another great video for the people still dabbling. In fact, this machine looks so much like the TASCAM 688 I last looked at, the layout of boards etc. Keep fixing!

I've got an MPC live, I'm still learning to use it. It's clunkier than a DAW but less options and no facility to check social media more than compensates. Thanks for watching

Hey thank you for making teardowns of all of these cassette recorders. I have a Fostex XR3 recorder that has rewinding issues. I just uploaded a short teardown video (under 2 minutes) on my channel to show you what's happening on the inside. If you do watch it can you let me know your thoughts on how this issue could be fixed. Thanks.

Replied - the shorter belt doesn't look short enough, it's saggy.

wow - the state of the inside is shocking. Hope it works out.

It's working perfectly now. The transport in particular was a LOT of work!

@@Tetrakanlabour of love - but satisfying if a success! I've just restored my old Fostex 250 that had quite a few dry joints and some sticky relays. Took the opportunity to really strip it down this time. Quite Zen...

You can use the stop button to close the tape door. It saves the mechanism

Hi brother the rec button on my Akai mg614 is not working. Is it a common problem on these machines? Can it be that the plastic piece behind the button is broken? Best

Found one of these but I’m missing the power supply. . . If anyone had any ideas I sure would appreciate it! 😮

I just found the power chord for my AKAI MG615 and it appears to be an "elliptical" 7A 125V (part number KAWASAKI KS-18B) The original chord was brown (rubber?) whatever they were made of then. Replacements seem very easy to find. Many of the replacements are "notched" and the original is flat on the sides (you'll see what I mean) so the notched ones should work fine too I was able easily search them out. I hope this helps
