For a cheaper VP, I think running a wire to the phone makes sense. For the glasses, I think it can do it wirelessly like the Apple Watch does. It sends certain things to the phone for processing via app.

Waveguide glasses with individually dimmable zones to be able to display the projected overlay in any lighting conditions. Notice how Meta chose to showcase Orion in a kinda dark blue painted room. Seems to me that the Apple Vision Pro is in a different market segment than Apple Glasses. The best use case for AVP is watching media and gaming. While Apple Glasses could work best as an iPhone interface for wearing in public. Imagine: an Apple Wristband sensing vitals--pulse, blood pressure, blood-oxygen levels, etc.--connected via Bluetooth to an iPhone, doing most of the computational work using Apple Intelligence, interfaced with Apple Glasses which were indistinguishable from everyday sports glasses...🧐

I don’t get how transparent glasses are a good idea for a great and inexpensive product. The optics issues are fundamental and hard. Rather what if the fully occluded vision approach were reduced to something that looked like dark sunglasses. You don’t need external displays showing your eyes, because people are used to the “sunglasses at night” look. And we’ve seen with vision that the displays you’re are looking at wearing the device can be low-latency and high-res enough handling the pass-through from the front camera to make you feel like you’re looking through transparent lenses. This, imo, is better, because it works in all lighting conditions and is a more practical way to get the kind of visual experience we want.

I have to assume that Apple will focus on weight and cost over the next 5 to 10 years. We'll see Apple Vision drop in price and drop in weight, and that will lead to a much bigger uptake of this important product. Meta’s Orion shows where things will go in the next 4 to 5 years. Of course, by then we may already have AGI, so who knows where things will go!
@InimitaPaul2 күн бұрын
Apple will ensure anything they release is proprietary and as such they won’t be able to touch X-Real’s offerings. There’s no way they’ll allow it to be used with pretty much any USB C device and that will hamstring it, they’ll sell to Apple fanboi’s but those of us who want “open source” AR glasses won’t touch Apple Vision and especially at Apple prices.

The main issue with the Apple Vision is that it still happens to be a “solution-looking-for-a-problem”; (plus the other issues relating to comfort of use, cost, AI integration, … etc.). As of now, it’s a high-tech version of a “Rube Goldberg machine”!
@MarcusWarcus403 күн бұрын
Is a bigger tv a “solution looking for a problem”? 🤨
@acslater0172 күн бұрын
I fundamentally disagree with your premise of solving problems. “Here’s the problem everyone acknowledges, here’s the solution that plugs that hole” is how infomercial products work, not breakthroughs. We’re so used to digital content being on glass rectangles *we don’t see it as a problem* and we see any different way of doing things as a gimmick. But real breakthrough products give people what they didn’t even know they wanted. I’ve owned a Vision Pro since launch day and it’s fundamentally changed how I enjoy home videos and photos - viewing spatial videos, 3D photos, and wraparound panoramas of personal memories is an amazing experience. It is also the hands down the best solo TV/movie watching experience I’ve ever had, akin to having your own theater. Short-sighted people mocked the imperfect appearance of the Personas, but when you chat with another Vision user honestly you notice it for about 1 minute, you get used to it, and then it feels like the person is there in your room. Viewing Immersive Video of nature, sports, and music content is stunning. The natural Environments are near photo-realistic and help me focus and relax. These are breakthrough experiences impossible on traditional devices. Fundamentally, Vision Pro (and other VR platforms) enables digital content to be freed from the glass rectangles they’ve been trapped on for 40 years. You’re in the memory, you’re at the sporting event, you’re surrounded by the nature wallpaper, your friend across the country is in your room. I don’t disagree that the price and weight needs to go down, the number of apps and video content needs to go up. But you’re completely mistaken to dismiss the Vision Pro. Take a look at the 25 year track record of people shooting down 1st gen Apple devices and ask who ended up being on the right side of tech history.

@dethswurl1172 күн бұрын
@@TailosiveTech It sounds cringey now, but so did many other things in the past like emojis & Snapchat filters which the vast majority of the population use now. Most people in video calls already use a virtual background to mask imperfections, imagine if people could do the same with their entire body. I'd imagine girls would take not having to do their hair and makeup every time they do a video call over the ability to take a selfie. It's a somewhat grim future but an extremely likely one based on past societal behaviors.
