Here is a challenge. Since North London is so hilly, you should have Rick try to see how much vertical gain he can get in one run.

I like that idea. Who can rack up the most elevation gain in an hour? Do you go for a really short steep hill or a longer gentle hill?

@@EmmaCR-zt8ct apparently they did, Challenge Accepted from 4 years ago. But not in hilly North London :)

So many options to set for a videos. Most elevation within 45min or within a 5 km run.

I'm 6 weeks into the TRC 10k training plan and I was planning to do 2 min at 5k pace w 1 min jog recovery times ten. Running with this plan, I ran a THREE MINUTE faster 5km than my current PB. Thanks to whoever set that training plan up! I went from a 32:12 to a 29:09. I thought my watch was off but I ran a loop I frequently run and the distance matched up perfectly. I've been running since march and deal with chronic fatigue so everything is a smidge harder, so I'm very proud of myself. :)

Congrats on your huge PB!! Even more impressive with chronic fatigue, I have that too. Everything is harder, but our successes are that much sweeter.

My running club did something similar a few years ago. State your 5k time then run 3 x 5k, on a defined route, with 5 minutes break between each run. Watches had to be covered and no lap alerts allowed. I stated 25 minutes for 5k and did 24:59 in the first, 25:01 in the second and 25:00 in the third. I’m hopeless at pacing but tell to run at 5 mins/km and I nail it pretty much every time.

@WindsRO
@WindsRO 18 сағат бұрын
Since you like promoting Garmin watches, how about a challenge were you all run the same heartratezone based interval training for example 5x5 min Z4 with 2 min Z2 rest in between. The winner is the one who gets with the best execution score. In case of a tie the winner could be the one who has a smaller pace difference between the fastest and slowest Z4 rep. Feel free to make the preplanned workout more complex. The main idea is, that its easy to get a high execution score on a even pased workout, but in heartrate based interval trainings its much harder since heartrate reacts with a small lag.

This is a cool challenge. I sometimes do what I have dubbed "flatline" runs. Not as dramatic as it sounds. I've managed a 12k with my heart rate staying within a range of 7 without looking at watch (After warmup). Fairly flat course, but still adjusting stride on the small inclines etc. Listening to your body like this is a lot of fun. Can also help you shift focus on those less motivated days. You can also do intervals. After the hard efforts try to settle into a target heart rate, maybe your top zone 2 - without looking at your watch until you think you're there. (Chest or arm strap monitor probably needed for this one).

Another challenge idea using the great hills of North London - Run 1km on the flat at whatever pace you like, then (without seeing your watch) match the pace running 1km up a significant hill, and 1km back down. Runner with the smallest overall difference wins

What about TRC does similar-to-hyrox-but-not-actually-a-hyrox? 8km split into 1km lots with certain exercises inbetween- squats, lunges, push-ups, monkey bars, rope climbs, burpees, etc. Finishing with skulling a Gavi. Then we can see who's doing their S&C and who's doing it with good form! 😜 Or, if S&C seems a bit too much, scavenger hunt where each location has a quiz question that must be answered before you can move on to the next spot- no phones allowed!

Challenge idea - pick a marathon major and attempt to draw a mini version of the marathon route on Strava art. Maybe limit the distance to 10k for the challenge.

It's harder to guage easy efforts over hard efforts. So, the solution to this challenge is to run two all-out 5ks, and your splits should be closer than trying to match an easy run. If that makes sense?
@kenanjones3481
@kenanjones3481 18 сағат бұрын
I don't know how you define "all out" but I would barely be able to run a 5k at all immediately after an all out 5k. I do agree that going hard would probably make this challenge easier tho, my strategy would be to basically just aim for a fast 10K and adjust my pace for the second half a little bit depending on how fast I actually go in the first half.
