Your 12V voltage converter is only rated to 5 amps, Watts=current X voltage, so 5amps X 12V= 60 watts. You need a 10 amp voltage converter to get 120W max charging.

Jackery should make this a feature to increase capacity. They have their own expansion batteries but they cost as much as a new Jackery!

XT60 connectors are cheap, often cheaper than SAE connectors and do not have the reversal thing you mentioned. Try those next time. They should be absolutely overkill for your circuit as they are rated to up to 60 amps.

You are cranking up my thinking brain. I just bought a used kayak and the battery that came with it may need to be replaced. I will have to look into lithium trolling motor batteries and see if I can use that as a short term back up for running my car fridge (after getting a Jackery, or some other battery pack).
@Vman1313
@Vman1313 Жыл бұрын
Lithiums are supposed to be great as trolling batteries. Only down side to Lithiums that I have seen is that they get damaged if you try to charge them when below freezing. This set up for camping is over kill but for blackouts will be good.

A lot of people are not considering that the smaller the generator the smaller the mppt controller that is not letting too much juice enter the small battery to keep it from frying.

I am on day 3 of testing. Video to come but spoiler alert....BIG battery only down to 78% and I am throwing everything that I would during a normal Adventure. It's currently running my fridge 24/7 and charging my laptop once a day. I am also discharging then charging every USB thing I have from cameras to headlamps to lights to fans. All without charging Jackery or big battery at all. I predict I will get tired of testing before big battery gets to ZERO...HaHaHaHa!

I need to do an update soon but spoiler alert...yes just the battery and a power inverter is all one needs. I already had the jackery so why not use it BUT Ive added an inexpensive DC to DC charger, nice battery monitor, and a few small things so I barely use the Jackery for camping anymore.

Are you using the 500w inverter on the jackery? If not, you are basically charging it 5x and putting wearing and tear on the lithium cells on the Jackery. And if you are you are basically using the jackery as a very expensive 500w inverter. It's better to just keep the jackery as a backup and run a 1500w inverter off that giant battery.

I have a Champion generator, 1800w rated, 40 pound, $200 that purrs at 600 watts and delivers 900 watts if I need it. It runs about 10 hours on a gallon with a low load. It would make an excellent companion to a pass through (UPS) battery pack if I could find the right size for the right price. The larger Jackery may be what I'm looking for.

The battery itself says "Scream Power" Lithium Batteries and below is a link to the Amazon Listing. So far I have been happy with it. It has gone out on 2 trips, passed a 6 Day test, and I used it while the ligths went out for a few hours at home for some minor stuff. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08G7YDGHB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

@@Vman1313what would happen if you got a 24v 200 ah battery??
@Vman1313
@Vman1313 5 ай бұрын
@@bdmenne I am not sure of the advantages off a 24v in a car/jeep/suv/etc. In a van, rv, or small home system then maybe because its better when running bigger appliances. The problem with 24v as I see it in my scenario is that you will need a 24v inverter and 24v charger and well everything to be 24v compatible. For camping and such, most things are 12v compatible not 24v so you wont be able to easily wire up lights, fridge, fans, etc.

Cargo carrier in a Reese hitch on the back of your vehicle. Put a little generator on it and let it run as you drive. It'll charge the battery pack just fine. No extra load on your car alternator. Nothing fancy required.

So basically you're saying, "don't buy a jackery. Just buy a battery, a solar charger/inverter and dc-to-dc charger, etc. it will be easier to expand your battery capacity when needed."
