Richard Widmark is one of the most underrated actors of his generation. He moved from film noir, to light comedy, to tough action hero's, effortlessly. He has a thrilling reality about him, that you seldom see in films today. I work in the film industry, and believe me, Hollywood could take a lesson.

in which respect should he have been underrated?
@BeauDare-ov7pyАй бұрын
@rni, During ths 50's Widmark always was 2nd or 3rd choice for a film after Burt Lancaster and others, and in many ways was a far better actor. (He was not as tall, etc.) But he could play light comedy which is really the most difficult, ( He worked with Doris Day for example). And he could also play villains as in "Kiss of Death". where he was nomimated for an Oscar). All best wishes.

Somehow and someway I watched this movie as a very young kid, and seeing it now brings back a flood of memories. It's kinda funny how things like just a movie can make such an indelible impression on one's memory from so long ago. Great movie, also, and I guess that is part of it, too.

This was a good movie! A little slow in the first half but it picked up, especially the last 25 min or so! You gotta appreciate the actors too for doing all of this in the jungle, sloshing around in disgusting water. This shoot must have been quite a slog. Simple plot. I enjoyed it!

poor story, bad script, incapable directing, illogical, behaviour, unlikely actions, apparently no experts or even intelligent people there while making the film. Nobody would after being imprisoned by two men with guns, flee without grasping the gun laying on the ground, There is a good chance against the other man with that gun.. Then also fleeing through the jungle for two days and then run the same way back, because they have got a better idea! Then a writer who knows how to effectively build traps with only a machete! So many unrealistic decisions and actions. I think Richard Widmark and Trevor Howard did not like the film.
@charlesfoster1412 ай бұрын
Very poor movie half through there is virtually zero plot of interest. The cinematography is beautiful but Richard Widmark's acting is terrible. Most of the time he sounds like he is reading a bad script. Jane Greer is very good but again there is nearly zero plot. I am a pilot and enjoy the aircraft. The crash was fairly well done but apparently Widmark knows nothing about flying or landing an airplane. Do yourself a favor and skip this one folks. P. S. The movie got better in the last half, worth watching but just barely if you can endure the first half.
