Strength training is a game-changer, I was skeptical at first but after doing it for a few months my long runs feel much easier.

My long run advice: If temps suddenly go up by 20 degrees, don't combine heat adaptation training *and* long run *and* speed in the same session. My running partner and I felt like Frodo and Sam on the vast wasteland of Gorgoroth. It was miserable.

I live in the Panhandle, and this happens regularly. It will go from mid to low 30s this time of year to 70s and 80s the next day with wind gusts of 20-40 mph. I have to constantly remind myself that there are going to be days where it feels easy and days where it feels extremely hard, but that the culmination of mileage and effort will result in a better runner in the long run.

I do the 80/20 so 80% of my runs are at zone 2 and the other 20% is speed work , tempo runs and hill repeats.

A weekly long run is ok for marathon training but ultras at the100 mile distance need to be spaced out more. This is just my opinion. Individuals need to find what works best for them. Running steep long hills with avoiding impact coming down is a great way to recover because of the lack of stress on the bones on the way up. It all comes down to the goals a person had and their abilities.

I experienced something completely new after my first marathon compared to my longest long run 38 km. I felt very stiff last 5 km ..I wasn’t tired but felt really stiff. What could be the reason and how can I train now to prevent that it slowed me down.

I am 55 male. 6’ 190 lb. Been working to to stay below 150 bpm and nose breathing only. 2 miles 3 days week. Times are still 15 minutes whether I push myself and walk or run with my mouth close the entire time the times just don’t change. Hoping to get back to a 10 minute mile but after two months of this I went from a 13 minute mile to a 15 minute mile will it ever get any better or am I just too old now?

Jason would you consider a workout with a long warm up and cool down (2-3 miles each) a mid week medium long run?
@JasonFitzgerald
@JasonFitzgerald 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can definitely do a workout during your medium long run. E.g., during my marathon prep I like to run 13-15mi midweek with 5mi at goal marathon pace. It's relatively easy from an intensity perspective but helps me get in more goal pace work.

Maybe Jason went a bit too far with the ads now, I feel the same way. Especially in his podcasts it's a bit annoying, but at least it's easy to skip if you know how long the ads always are. I can understand it though, he has to feed a family, life in the US is tough, I heard (have never been there).
