I have the M2 air and it definitely is better at single care tasks especially in python and such but I want to know what would cause even the m2 pro to be slower than the m2 at single core even when it has the same architecture

Hi Alex! I want to buy MacBook Pro m2 pro or m2 max and can’t choose which one will be better. I have idea to buy m2 max and use it with low power mode when its not on charging. How do you think, will it be similar by performance and battery life like m2 pro?

The TL;DR on the whole Intel x M1 x M2 etc for me is basically is: if you have an Intel Mac, buy any iteration of the ARM line-up and you will be rocking much more. The difference across the line-up is on milliseconds or some minutes. The difference with Intel ones are much more minutes. Sometimes an hour

@@kompotium I think @Alex made a video comparing ML on those machines and M2 Pro's Neural Engine performed better than M1 Max. The 19 GPU cores M2 Pro performs better than the 24 GPU cores M1 Max, but slightly lower than 32 GPU core M1 Max (Not by much) So @kumilan75, you should definitely listen to @kompoitum and go with the M2 Pro!

M2 Pro and Max both have same number of CPUs. You only want the Max if you need that GPUs and extra RAM.

Need a laptop that will last me for my university and I have to buy one now.. Should last 4-5 years atleast. Machine learning masters. Which one to go for? M2 air 16 | 256 or M2 pro base? Or a gaming laptop ( not being able to play games is not a huge deal breaker. Anyway they distract me)

I applaud your focus 👏 I'm doing a post-grad Data Analytics course and finishing off with ML to get accreditation. I happen to have an M1 MacBook Air 8GB and a M1 Pro 16" MacBook Pro 16GB at my disposal, so I have ran python on both machines performing "pandas" dataframe manipulation, "numpy" computations and "scikit" ML models. The difference is vast. First off, the field of data science is very RAM instensive. You'll be dealing with BIG data, millions of rows is a norm and it gets loaded on to RAM to perform vectorized calculations. So you need 16GB RAM at least. As for computational speed, more CPU/GPU cores the better. Python packages that you'll be using will use multi-processing. I assume you'll be performing deep learning too, neural networks are GPU intensive cos they take in every data point possible from the pixels. So if you can afford it, go for a M2 Pro Macbook Pro 14/16". But if you're on a budget, you need to upgrade the ram on the M2 Air to 16GB at the very least. I can upgrade g15 as many times as I want to and it costs almost 200-300 dollars cheaper here in India than the mac, but I am now hesitant while buying windows laptops ; I have a 2.5 year old envy, and is facing loads of hardware problems. My experience hasn't been, reliable.

9:23 little BIG correction, its not threading its processing - multiprocessing. When multithreading you have one process that utilize all cores (thats something python is really bad at it, at least in Windowsland - just using one core why so ever), multiprocessing is the way to start several processes that get a task todo from the still running main process and the result is finally handed over back to the main process.

@@awaiz235 - In the mid-80s, I used /dev/null all the time on my Apollo workstation, so of course when I started using batch files on a PC, I used /dev/null also (can you see the problem?). The guy I worked with wondered why there were “null” files all over the machine. Of course, as soon as I changed it to “nul”, everything was fine.
