Went with the Speed ultra version. True to size for me. Like the way you sit into the midsole so you get the plush feel without feeling unstable. My first experience of Lightstrike foam and it’s one of those shoes you know feels great after the first few hundred metres. Early days, but looking forward to putting more miles in them as the trails dry out and am now tempted to get the Speed trail to log majority of training miles in.

Really happy to see you've enjoyed this shoe, i have the speed ultra and im considering this one too. One thing everyone seems to get wrong is that the speed ultra is carbon plated, but its actually plastic rods that are mainly down the sides of the midsole and provide more stability than propulsion. Honestly dont know if i like any foam more than lightstrike pro, and it does seem to be incredibly durable for a superfoam Keep the good reviews coming, thanks
@alexkhan20007 ай бұрын
I have the Agravic Speed Ultra and this Agravic Speed and I love both. I'm mainly a road runner but these shoes have really got me going on the trails again. I've tried various carbon-plated trail shoes like the Tecton X/X2, Endorphin Edge, and NB's SC Trail and I've come to the conclusion that the carbon plate is just not necessary on trail shoes and is actually a hindrance. It feels especially bad or harsh when going downhill. I'm a huge fan of Adizero shoes with the LSP foam and have the PXS v1/v2, Adios Pro 3, Takumi Sen 8/9/10, Boston 12, and Adios 8. I love them all and it's mainly because of the feel and ride that the LSP foam provides. Like you, it's my favorite by far although other foams are good for different usage cases. Anyway, it's why I've been waiting for the Agravic Speed Ultra and this Speed for ages and I'm really happy to have both. They are exactly what I've been wanting in trail shoes. The Ultra is way more stable than it looks and is more propulsive than any other carbon plated trail shoe I've tried. It's got that familiar LSP bounce but is still very responsive and also stable. It may not be the best for steep descents on gnarly rocky technical trails (I have the Nnormal Kjerag for such terrains) but, for everything else, the Ultra is awesome. The midsole stack height looks much higher than it is since the feet sit well below the rim of the midsole. As for this Speed, it's a very good complement to the Ultra. It's noticeably lighter and more agile, making it better for technical trails. It doesn't have the boomy bounce of the Ultra that keeps you going at a good pace on long distance runs and races, but it's got that trademark LSP feel and ride, which means it's fun. It's great for road-to-trail excursions as well. When I got the Ultra and Speed, I retired the SC Trail even though it still had some miles left in it. I just couldn't go back to it. Why "waste" a run with it when I can be enjoying the Ultra or the Speed?

@@recguerra3 My understanding is that Agravic Speed is full length Lightstrike Pro under the foot with Lightstrike 2.0 rim for support and stability. I think the formulation of the LSP on these Agravic shoes is a little different from that on the road shoes. It feels denser, which is probably a good thing for the trails. Just received the SL2 today. Haha. Haven't run in it yet but I tried it on and did some light jogging in the house and it feels really good. I went TTS and it's a little snug but going half-size up would have been too much. Plan on taking it on a 5-mile run tomorrow. Seems like the perfect daily trainer that Adidas has been missing in the Adizero line. Priced right too!

This shoe is the real deal: I also have the Kjerag, and the Speed Trail beats it. First things first: Size down 1/2size from the previous version or your normal size. US12.5@10oz 1/2oz more than kjerag, so very light. More toebox room than the kjerag, not overly narrow across the metatarsals as the kjerag is. More and softer cushion, with a rocker that helps forward propulsion and makes it more 'fun' to run in than the kjerag. 8mm drop vs 6, I'd prefer 6mm for steep downhills. Same ungusseted tongue (very unhappy about this!) as kjerag, but smaller gaps in ankle collar & upper to let rocks in. Laces that don't come undone, unlike kjerag. The TST is happier on smooth to moderate trails, but I did 3hours on steep fairly rocky singletrack yesterday with no serious complaints, no toe-banging or underfoot pains. Do use heel-lock to keep the heel stable. $40 cheaper than the kjerag!
@simonRt5 ай бұрын
Any other observations after more miles? Do you have Kjerag in your 'normal' size, and adidas 0,5 size smaller? Love running in Kjerag, but at 75kg I'm looking for some more padding underfoot for longer efforts with tarmac sections.
@rmsrmsrmsrms5 ай бұрын
@@simonRt I am also 1/2 size down (from saucony/nike) in kjerag, but that is fairly tight across the metatarsals, which gets worse with any foot swelling, no such issue with the TST. I haven't tried pavement with the TST, at 50miles now, but imagine it would do just fine. I'd probably say S-Lab Genesis (also 1/2size down) for racing (similar feel to TST but more stable heel, better upper), and either TST or regular Genesis (true to size? don't have it yet) for training

Strange that you found the outsole of the old Agravic Ultra to be poor in mud. For the mud type where I run, they are nothing short of FANTASTIC. The rest of that shoe sucks (except the $45 price tag when I bought them!) but their ability to shed my local mud and drain water is bar none. And they're low key really damn fast for about 100 miles/160km. Best 45 beans I ever spent for running kit.

But they still turned up literally next working day 🤷 Anyway, I already had about 50 miles on them before taking them out for a 3hr forest track easy run today and absolutely no issues, so they seem to work for me for long runs. Will probably give them the task of the next 6hr run in a couple of weeks and if they pass that they may well be my ultra race shoe for this year. Obviously, grip sucks if you throw anything more than a hint of mud at them, Mudtalons they are certainly not, but for mixed terrain running when it's going to be fairly firm underfoot one way or the other they seem good!

The shoe doesn't have a dual layer midsole like you describe. It's Lightstrike Pro with a rim of Lightstrike around it reminiscent of the Saucony Xodus Ultra. While I am sceptical as well regarding the Agravic Speed Ultra in technical terrain it should be noted that it is not carbon plated. It uses plastic roads that are by far not as stiff as a typical plate and configured differently than in a road shoe.
@Run4Adventure7 ай бұрын
Well the midsole does use two different types of foam so surely it’s a dual compound midsole construction? You compare it to the Xodus Ultra which is definitely a dual compound midsole 🤔
@ThatFlowState7 ай бұрын
@Run4Adventure yes it's a dual compound midsole but not two layers of foam. There's no top layer of Lightstrike and a layer of Lightstrike Pro underneath it (firm on top, soft on the bottom) as your "Midsole" chapter (at least to me) implies. And although it's a little late now, in my experience when adidas says "True to size" on their website they mean true in regards to their other shoes, which is why you had to exchange yours. Looking forward to your full review, seems to me it could make for a fun workout shoe.

I'm always wondering wether true to size means "the same size as all our other shoes" or "actually the lenght listed in the size chart - which we also made up for ourselves"
@scriptosaurusrex7 ай бұрын
Well that's it, right? Apart from some of the asian sizing, 'size' is just a made up metric - hence why so many different places and societies use different sizing numbers, and they don't always seem to translate to the same size in a different system. I don't bother with size, and go by alleged length (a d failing that Japanese size, as that is length in cm) now. It's still not perfect, as volume and shape can change things, before even accounting for the size not being 'true', but it has lead to far fewer returns in general.

I am surpised by the picture you show at 10 seconds in the video the Adidas terrex agravic ultra, i have used the Adidas Terrex speed ultra (240 mark, not the 299 mark ) and that is a quite nice shoe for long runs on dry and technical terrain, for mud the profile is simply too shallow, agreed, the collar was indeed high and I could not take out the insole for less weight. In an early version I ran with al pleasure, a second pair caused me initially some blister (I then put a kinesiotape over the heel/achilles) but it was a superb shoe still. I would rather compare that one rather then the agravic version to the speed ultra, being a "racing" shoe/variant.

I just finished a 10 mile run in the speed ultra, I don’t know if I like it or hate it. I love the Boston 12, adios pro 3, and even the SL so I thought these would be a no brainer, but not so sure. Main thing I have problem with is the huge heel rocker that apexes just before the heel. I noticed the speeds you have say 20 (degree) on them in the foam on medial side, my ultras say 30 degrees on them, so I assume the speeds being less aggressive of a rocker may not be as punishing if you get lazy and heel strike? Trying to decide if I should swap them out for the speeds.

I was hyped on the speed ultras after two separate 90 minute runs that I decided to use them for a 50k yesterday. So much so that I switched to Hoka tectons for the last 20k and immediately felt some relief. All that is to say that I’m planning to give the speeds (non ultras) a try instead with hopes that I get some of the lightstrike pro magic in a more natural geometry for my running form.
