I’m about 100 miles into my pair, and their ability to go both far and fast is really unique. All the comfort of a max-stack plodder, but with the ability to turn them over and get some speed as well. Amazing shoe. Regarding durability, I lost a couple of small chunks from the lugs on my very first run, but 90 miles later (on same terrain) there’s no additional wear or damage. Great video Loyd

I’ve covered a few hundred miles in my newish Saucony Peregrine 12 and absolutely love them but if you’re telling me these are another level above them… we’ll I guess I’m just going to have to agree with my wife and support the notion that I have an addiction to buying anything running/ Trail related 🤣. Great effort on the UTMB content & congratulations … keep up the great content 👏🏻

I´ve been watching maybe 20 or 30 of your reviews the last couple of days Loyd, and enjoying every one of them. You're doing a brilliant job. The Xodus 10 is one of my all-time favorites and this shoe sounds like it's better on almost every point. So I'm really looking forward to hitting the trails wearing this shoe.

Took 'em out for a mostly-trail half-mar right out of the box. No break-in was needed, felt great on both trail and pavement, and felt as accommodating or better in the toe-box than my Hoka Clifton 8's and Bondi 7's (both in wide fit). The grip of a Peregrine with the comfort of a well-cushioned road shoe. Only 120km on 'em so far, but I'm confident they'll serve well into 600km and beyond. Even as a 200lb runner I feel stable over technical terrain. I'm in Newfoundland, an island nicknamed The Rock, and the outsole has held up beautifully so far. Your earlier video on these shoes finally convinced me to order a pair - thanks for that!

I’m also about 100 miles into the shoe and bought it after watching your first review. This shoe does not disappoint! It’s everything I hoped a trail shoe should be. The angle of the heel lock chaffed for about 25 miles but I didn’t have any issues after that. I will be getting a second pair when they drop down in price for it’s inevitable replacement. Will be doing my elevation training runs and ultras in this shoe in the foreseeable future ! Thanks again for your great reviews. And congratulations on UMTB ! Love your videos!

Saucony fan here for years. Moved from trail over to road for the past year and the Guides were my money-shot for pavement. However, the Xodus Ultra (after carefully checking the Endorphin Edge review) is indeed my next buy. Already tried them on - and it's trigger pulling time. That said - I have to ask - is it JUST ME(?!?!?!) or do pretty much ALL of Loyd's videos on shoes make you simply wanna slam the lid on your notebook and bomb out the door for a run not matter what time of day or night it is?? I swear Loyd, you've got some infectious running moxi mate - and that's a damn good thing!! Stay fit, stay well, and THANKS for the incredible inspiring vids!!

I have had mine for 10 months now. and you are right that it is a great shoe. lightweight. well fitting and firm on the feet. my feet don't hurt after a good run. i really love them. after all i have my problems on muddy terrain. They run really well on very muddy conditions also in long grass fields and the clay and mud doesn't stick to the sole because the spikes are well separated. but in rainy wet conditions in rocky terrain or even asphalt they are quite slippery they don't have as much grip it feels like the rubber spikes are too hard. compared to my old brooks shoes. i don't want to break the shoe down but in wet rocky terrain i have little confidence. thank you for your videos on the channel😅😊

Agree, Loyd. Xodus for the win on the best overall trail running shoe of 2022 (not including racers). Comfort, grip, overall fit and last with some give in the toebox. You have to lace 'em down carefully to keep their grip on the toes and midfoot but just genius. More stable than the Edge, more comfortable than just about any other shoe on trail (although the NB More v2 trail is bonkers comfy too). Just great, already bought a 2nd pair!

They worked exellently for me, however I managed to broke the black part of the outsole after 130 km-s, right before my first 50k ultra race. Now I'm going to get a new pair of these, becuase they worked really well on all kind of terrain 😊 I'm also very exited about the new Innov8 shoe, You've shared at the end of the video ❤️ I had a luck to watch your finish on the TDS online (live) and we've already watched your video with my wife about the race - we appreciate Your work ❤️

Great VLOG. I noticed the 2021 Ultra Glides made the podium at UTMB for both women and men...and were used by a variety of Salomon athletes in all races...by choice. I look forward to an objective pro con video for both...or is this one far and away better...IYHO:) I'm on my second pair of UGs now, will do a 100 mile bush trail race in 2 weeks so I guess I will have a better idea. My first pair of UGs got 530 miles on all terrain. This could be my next shoe as I continue my UTMB quest for my 60th birthday in 2024. Digging the adventures in the Adventure Bus! Hey Ian, the Salomon Ultra Glides were Lloyd's pick for 2021, and I'm still running in them. I quite like the Ultra Glides, though I would say he is rating the Saucony Xodus Ultra above them for 2022, and I think the Xodus will be in the mix for my next trail shoe in the next few months.

It is interesting how different experiences are. I did some longer trails with the Xodus including eiger ultra trail E101. I like the comfort, however i didn't like the grip on rocks even on dry rocks as well the durability. After 350km the outsole is finished and I use the shoe for garden work 🙂.

Bought a pair after watching the initial run video. I must say, it doesn't feel like a typical trail run shoe! It feels very light, cushioned, and responsive! However, there's a patch on my running track which is made of smooth concrete tiles. And when it rains, and if I'm wearing these, I feel like I'm wearing a pair of skates! So I guess the grip won't be very great when it comes to smooth, wet rocks.

Just checked out the 300 mile review to make a comparison with mine. I've put 250km into my pair and I do love them, but my outsole is absolutely shredded to pieces. Rocky terrain has taken chunks off some lugs, completely ripped off more lugs altogether and has split the foam away from the rock plate. That being said, my Hoko SG5s are so narrow after a few test runs, i'll likely wear my Xodus Ultras for my race in two weeks, and hope the outsole can hold up!

So far, great shoe indeed. I have only two runs in them, but they seem to me like an improved version of the Mad River: both gave me heel blisters on the first run (only the first), and both got more comfy once I got them wet (rain with MRs, stream crossing with EUs). Good video, but I wish you would have shown us closeups of the shoe after 300 miles; if I’m not mistaken, all closeups were from the original video. I would have like to see how the upper, sides of the sole and bottom of the sole looked like, as well as the inner liner for that matter. Hope the recovery is going well, and keep up the good work.

The more I watch your reviews the more I really want this shoe! However, the exodus ultra is still not yet sold in my country 🤦🏾‍♂️ Saucony as a brand is not very popular here, except for the endorphin series. The only saucony's trail offering here is the Endorphin Trail, a 2021 shoe that got unanimously bad reviews from every shoe reviewers on youtube 🤦🏾‍♂️ really want to have this as I'm planning to include more trail runnings moving forward (used to be a road-only runner). After a half marathon race as my first trail race ever, this weekend I'll be running a 32km race with 2000m of elevation gain. Will be using my hoka ATR 6 because... well... it's the only trail shoe I have right now 🤣 Clearly not suited for the muddy steep climbs I'll be facing, but whatever, just roll with what I have 🤣

I have almost 300 miles in mine and only slight wear on the outsole outer edge (I under pronate) but no other real breakdown to note. Maybe because of the hype and my own massive expectations, the disappointment was huge. There's something wrong with the upper or the laces. Its too elastic and makes it very difficult to get a good grip across the midfoot. But the biggest issue fo me is the pressure on the lateral side of the foot. And it feels like the shoe wants to roll to the lateral side too. Im pretty sure i would sprain my ankle if I continued running in the shoe. The first run was very painful and I had to quit after 6 km on a very rugged and buff offtrail run. Something i normally only experience in Salomon and other narrow shoes. So I have to return the shoes cause I can't run in them. Grip seemed to be fine. The midsole not nearly as bouncy and soft as expected. The Xodus10 was for me a much much better shoe.

It's a great shoe but it sounds like it's just not right for you Jan. It just goes to show that running shoes are so personal! I've never taken a running shoe straight out of the box and run 80 miles in it and not had any form of discomfort and I probably won't ever do it again 🤔 I actually thought the Xodus 10 was very unstable on technical trails and pretty heavy? Best reviews on YT, and not even close ! Especially as you really "test" the shoes, not just going for 1-2 runs in nice weather like other so called reviewers...and your scoring makes absolute sense, if you give a 9 every now and again, a 9 would become average, Cheers Ingo

Hey Lloyd. So finally received my pair. Very strangely one shoe ended up being 20g heavier than the other. It felt it in hand too. 🤔Returned them and bought another pair which had the same issue. Not really sure why. Kind of put me off and I have regretfully decided to go down the SG5 route instead. Had the 4 previously which were good and it seems the 5 is a solid update. 👍

That is very strange Phil!? I've never had that happen with a pair of shoes and Saucony tend to be pretty consistent 🤔 If you liked the SG4's then I'm sure you'll get on with the 5's, it's a good update. Thanks for watching 🙏😊

@@Run4Adventure yeah two pairs of shoes from two different retailers too. Don't ask why but I always tend to weigh shoes and appreciate there can be discrepancies but 20g both times seems strange. Not to worry though sure the SG will assist me with my forthcoming ultra just fine. Enjoy the weekend 👍

Thanks for great reviews! Your first review on Xodus Ultra pushed me 'over the edge' (along with other reviews on this shoe) to buy a pair. I've been very happy. However after only about 350-400km the small gap of the upper mesh between the Saucony branding and the end of the toe guard on the outside of both shoes started showing signs of fraying. Now at 475km, the right shoe has a 8mm hole/slit and the left shoe will probably follow in 50-80km. The overall shoe durability has been really good except for this spot. In my opinion, this is a design issue leaving a small gap of mesh between harder parts of the upper in an area that bends and flexes while running. Needless to say this is very disappointing and making me question the Xodus Ultra going forward, especially considering the local price. Is this issue unique to me?
@Run4Adventure

Hi Grant, Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching the channel. I haven't had any upper durability issues with my Xodus Ultras. I've run just over 400 miles in them now and I don't have any holes in the upper fabric? I've got some wear on the outsole tread but the midsole still feels fine to run on. To be honest, I haven't really heard of any problems when it comes to durability? 🤔

Hi Loyd, greetings from Medellín Colombia, I am a fan of your reviews and I wanted to ask you a couple of questions: 1 I bought the Peregrine 12 in my normal size (8.5 US), but they were too tight. In your opinion, should I buy the Xodus Ultra in 8.5 or should I take a larger size? 2 At the adjustment level, is there much difference between the Xodus Ultra and the Xodus Ultra 2? I ask because people have complained about the Xodus Ultra's fit level and bungee cords.

Hi, I really enjoyed your review!! I haven't tried this shoe yet but I think you have sold me on trying a pair. I normally run in Hoka Speedgoats, currently the 5's, but I might have to look into this shoe for my next 100. My reasoning being that the tongue on the 5's literally dug a hole in the tops of both feet during a very technical race recently (72 miles) and I don't think I can tolerate that shoe for my next 100 mile race. The Hoka SG 4 also left me with severe chafing in the same area but not to the extent of the 5's. How is the tongue on the Xodus? Thanks for any help in this! Thanks again!
