Del Shannon has heard women sing Runaway. In 1977 or 8 Bonnie Raitt had a hit with Runaway, she still performs and writes songs till this day.

My guess is that there are two things going on, and that's the keywords and description of the video (supplied by the uploader), and the YT algorithm that ranks videos and decides what to suggest. There are just 4 keywords (you can see them by looking at the page source and searching for "keywords") for this video: "The Crickettes","Runaway","The Ventures","Del Shannon"]. The description is what you see right under the name of the uploader. YT isn't going to tell us much about the algorithm, but it's basically just math. It does the math accurately, but that doesn't mean that it's intelligent. Based on the keywords there's no reason to think that YT knows that this video has anything to do with women or guitars. Technically it may not even know that it's about music. What it knows it what the keywords are, who else has watched it, what those others viewers watched, total views, etc. Of course it also knows what videos you've watched. Absent the information about other people you could probably watch 1000 videos a day, with all of them being related to female guitarists and never suggest this. Since it does now about other people watching it the connection is made at some point, and it turns up as a suggestion. I'm strictly guessing, but unless the keywords and description are a really good match for other stuff you watch there may be a minimum number of views before it gets suggested, too. Think of it as a bit like 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon. No matter how many people you know and who know Keven Bacon you still need to string together the necessary people in the middle to complete the connection. FWIW I think the first time I saw a suggestion for the Crickettes was just about a week ago.
