It's been a few months since we learned that there were problems with our plans to build this into an Off-Grid cabin on our homestead in Tennessee. So...what's next? This week we give you an update on what we plan to do with this cabin and show a little sneak peak into this!

Cass reminds me of an old friend of mine from a few decades ago. She was a good friend during some tough times in my life. She and Cass could be twins they way they look, act, and behave. Every time I watch your KZbin posts, she lifts my spirits with her bubbly positivity. It helps with my own attitude while dealing with a third round of chemo. Thanks. Keep your faith in the Lord and don't forget the most important ingredient in life is knowing Jesus and letting Him lead you. Life is too short to live it any other way.

I wish your county and the State of Tennessee would get their act together and clarify WHY you are not allowed to live in your Amish Cabin. As long as it's a safe structure and keeps you safe, on your land, why would anyone care that you live in it ? I'm very impressed with what you have done with your land and your positive approach 👍 thank you for sharing your journey

Big brother don't give a rats butt about our safety lol. They try and make it to where you have to pay for electric or pay for water. I'm also noticing that Uncle Sam just likes making life hell for good hearted hard working people that want to get as far away from the political sheet show called government

Tennessee isn't the only state that has these rules, Many counties and municipalities all over the country have similar laws. For the most part it's really because they want site built structures that are constructed according to THEIR zoning rules, for which you have to apply for permits and pay them thousands of dollars. And once that structure is up they get to automatically reappraise the value of the property and significantly increase your taxes. It has nothing to do with concern for your safety. Its all about money and control.

Bad comments? That makes no sense. You two are doing just fine. Pigs. Pigs are easy to raise. You can buy a piglet for 50 to 200 depending on what you want. IPPs would fit you great. Feeder piglets go for 1 to 200 dollars. They graze on grass so you don't have to feed them as much. Makes the extra cost pay for itself.

I used a bluetti AC200P to power my garden, with three 270W solar modules. The main consumer is the well pump. I used that system for 6 months, it produced 150 kWh in that timespan. I build a big solar system with 23 kWp and a 30 kWh battery, inverters & chargers are Victron components. What i noticed with the bluetti was if you switch the AC output on, it drains the battery (2 kWh in the AC200P) about 2.5% every hour. Over night during the summer it lost 25% battery during 10 hours. In the end that was the limiting factor for its use and made me stop using it. The AC200P was just too limited for this use case. I am quite happy with the Victron components though, its powering a three household house plus one EV, for more than half of the year only on solar and we feed into the grid.

Challenge the law? Write your own law or bill, or an ammendment to the existing law, get the signatures you need, get your representatives involved and press them until you get it passed, help others who find themselves in the same predicament? People should be allowed to do, put, build and live how they chose on their own property as long as the dwellings are safe! Just my opinion! I live in Oregon and they are far to controlling-state and county! I might just consider moving to Tennessee, it looks beautiful!

im sheathing the walls on my forever house now. right now its 786 sq ft. i would advise you think about adding on later if the need arises for like which way the roof pitch goes etc. its easier to keep going w the same way the roof goes instead of adding on and having crazy squares sticking outta the side of yer roof. just a preplanning idea if u ever need to add on to the forever house.

No one said anything about "Haters". Just folks with different points of veiw which is just part of normal life. Living in an echo chamber is far more detrimental to your health than folks voicing their opinions. It takes all kinds to make the world go round. Instead of being so judgemental, try being more accepting of the fact that not everyone will see things from your point of view. Doesn't make them wrong or haters, simply makes them human.

The positive attitude you both choose is a nice experience for me as a viewer, it's probably rewarding for you also as you move a little faster towards your forever home. The things you're doing with your cabin seem like really important things that the cabin is perfect for. One other thought I wanted to share. You had indicated that the cabin was going to eventually be used as a small rental for income generation for your bigger projects. I don't know Tennessee Law at all so I won't pretend to, but to help with income I wonder if you made a small nice bedroom in your cabin and rented that bedroom only for very short stays via Airbnb that shouldn't be classified as a permanent living arrangement. If that were possible you could be helping a lot of people just passing through who just need a bed and also realizing some of the income you want. Many people who have a place to rent very much prefer the Airbnb short stay option over permanent monthly renters anyways. I wish you both the best always...

When planning your dream house; you should think hard about building it on a basement if you haven't already done so. Great storage out of the weather and potential living area. My mother-in-law's parents lived in their basement for a couple of years as they built their house and built up their funds to continue. You could even put your water tanks down there and not worry about them freezing. Also, since your property is hilly, this gives you options on where you can put your house. I moved to the south a few years ago and I really miss having a basement.

I know someone in Hamilton County Tennessee who has been living in one of these same structures, for years now, and never been bothered by any inspectors or government officials. It's has electricity and water hooked to it but no sewer. They use a incinerator toilet. And the grey water just runs out into a ditch into the woods. You can see it from the road and it's located in an established subdivision. Nobody has ever questioned it because it's technically a storage/ garden shed.

Right, because they DIDN’T let the whole world know what it is and how it got there. If they did, they would have had the same issue. So lesson in this story is, if you were to do something like this and use it as a home, DO NOT let everyone know about the details. Just say you built it, if anyone asks, and you’ll be just fine.

The one thing that I don't understand is that the law says that you cannot live in something that is easily moveable, and that is the exact definition of a 5th wheel camper. So how is it that they allow that, but not a ready built cabin ?
@CarmanYoung-pg8pm
@CarmanYoung-pg8pm 29 күн бұрын
Well when you are doing renovations in Canada with the government's help the definition of full renovation is all four walls but if you leave one wall and do three of them wait to the following year and then go after the grant to finish the restoration then it's financially able to be done with no permits or the minimum of permits so if they only need one existing wall to keep it as legal building that's being renovated not totally rebuilt and the rule is one wall while you can do the basement three walls and a ceiling and they couldn't stop you maybe you have something like that where you live deconstructing dropping the walls and lifting the roof off would make it the easiest put down and put back together just sucks that you would need to crane

Back when I brewed beer, I only had two bottles explode, but my biggest problem was letting it age long enough before drinking it, so most didn't taste that great... 🙄 I watch a lot of Y'Tubers, and the happiest foodies are the ones who can, pickle, and ferment their produce, and some smoke or dehydrate part of their meat. Freezers are a power drain but of course chest freezers use far less power due to not dumping cold air when opened. Outhouses seem to mostly be illegal in Tennessee so you will need a septic tank at some point. I assume you can make it large enough to plumb the camper, shed, and house into, even if you have to run it all through the house to the tank. We own one each of the 3 first and top brands of power stations and while each seems to have one slightly different feature, they are all equal quality and when i bought mine, Bluetti was the least expensive one.

most companies that build these sheds have engineered and stamped plans that should have been offered to you at no cost. then you have to comply with the tie down requirement's for your county or city. I have sold over 100 of sheds and permits have to be done and inspections also once over 200 sq ft in my area.. good luck

We've been searching for land in TN for a while and love the idea of no permits, what county are you in? And what about the septic permit? I read that's one you have to get that the state issues. Love seeing you guys do your thing! I am so envious! We're kinda stuck in Florida until some life events happen, then we'll definitely be Tennessee bound!

Build a foundation under it and it should meet the rules like with a mobile home.

Just a suggestion. Could you place the RV beside the cabin so the door is right beside the porch? You could just step out the RV door and into the cabin.

I’m thinking if one takes off the roof… it’s no longer a structure, just some walls… take a picture… put the roof back on… a solition perhaps?
