Love your winter prep but concerned about how hot that wood stove will get and think you may want to put concrete panels or stove panels behind and under your stove.
@Litmom052 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. You need a heat resistant protection barrier on the floor and wall around the wood stove.

If you put two cinder blocks next to one another with four 2x4s sticking out the holes in a "V" shape, that makes a great fire wood stand without having to build anything.

You can get a fan that sits on the wood stove, that runs on the heat from the stove.

Cutting/spitting/stacking firewood will be a daily routine. Even if you had enough for 3 years built up it just never ends. You NEVER have enough wood ready to burn.
@larrybuehler30012 ай бұрын
Before the snow starts flying it would be nice to put a cover over your patio and stack the wood under it, that would make it nice when all you would😉 have to do is open the front door and get your wood,

I had to replace the handle on my Ford Ranger Tailgate. The replacement part is not expensive, and the fix is easy. I think I got the part from AutoZone, but I may be remembering that wrong.

Another good way to keep the floor warm in your camper is to put some under pinning around your camper, It don't have to be expensive you can use plywood or anything you have laying around, it helps keep the winter wind from causing a draft under your camper, I use a chop block saw to cut my wood down small enough to fit in your stove, Its a safer and quicker way to cut wood into smaller pieces,
@vonheise2 ай бұрын
Even stick built cabins have warmer floors when underpinned. I have seen a few that have big solar setups and good underpinning use a couple heater light bulbs under them, they make more heat than light but don't use as much wattage as an actual resistance heater but will provide some heat.

It is not winter until January and February in Tennessee. Oct. Nov. Dec. March, & April are the "if you don't like the weather today, wait till tomorrow and it will be different months. Note about tailgates, if there is weight on them you have to push in on them as hard as you can to get them to release, otherwise they might break or at least refuse to open. A little lithium grease, or whatever you have on the latches where they rub the socket also helps. I have to do that every time, weight on it or not due to tight seal. I assume you are buying wood, with all that wood on your property... I would plant some water oaks as they grow really fast and hardwood is the best for slow burning hot fires.

Love to watch you starting out and learning. I've had chickens for nearly 50 years now. I've never understood "preserving" eggs. Fresh UNWASHED eggs last up to four months in a cold place. We start stockpiling in September, since our hens are usually molting/not laying in Nov/Dec, which gives us enough eggs to last until they start up again in the new year (aren't there enough chores to do on the homestead---who needs eggs to last two years, we have chickens, right?).

Water Glass them - in 1/2 gallon glass jars - and hold them. Find you local Barn to Door (local version) in your community, they will handle the eggs for you. Or look at local/State Egg Laws and in most cases if they are your own - you can sell them "at will". There are some great books on the different ways to preserve and save eggs. Freeze them too. In zip lock freezer style bags. Or cook them and freeze them for egg patties and biscuits, etc.. Get creative. Cook some and give them back to the ladies. Just don't waste good eggs. they worked too hard to give them to you. I found a barter of eggs for firewood, I have to help the guy on his property, and I don't mind. I need the heat and cooking. Get creative. Two heaping tablespoons lime to one quart works well. I mix it ok shake it and pour it over them.

Hay yall love you two , don't always get to coment but watch you weekly, my question is can you do this type of canning to store brought eggs?, God bless you both and Thank you
@donovanfoto32632 ай бұрын
Yes, you can CAN store bought eggs. If you look into the Foxfire book series it covers long term egg storage. One entails Borax and lard, mixed together. It will give you two or three styles. Matt and Cass, I am not sure why I can't comment directly, however, put a three day supply of wood in your shed. That should help in heavy snow. Keep it close, so you don't have to work so hard in the snow. Borax eggs will last at least one year, however, they have a slight BORAX flavor. The coldest winter I ever lived was in Millington, TN ('82-'83). I was born and raised in New Jersey. Now you need a ROOT CELLAR. But that will have to wait till spring.
