Not really. Dude Looks Like a Lady rejuvenated them. The Run DMC thing was just part of grand scheme between Rick Rubin and John Kalodner. Then Aerosmith went on tour with G'N'R, the biggest thing in rock in at least a decade. You could say that's what rejuvenated them, but no. It was a combination of things.

Well to be fair Blondie mixed rap with rock and disco before this, and Adam and the Ants did Ant Rap back in 1981 mixing the genres, so though Run DMC/Aerosmith may not have been the first, this song might have been the most significant, as it paved the way for bands like Anthrax who'd later team up with Public Enemy.

It depends on how good your technique is the way a lot of older rockers do it is by constricting their throat - however in the long run creating distortion this way or indeed just singing with with bad technique has a bad effect on the voice (if you listen to singers like Paul McCartney or Robert Plant sing nowadays you'll see that it eventually catches up with you - their voices are ruined). Alternatively with good technique a much safer type of distortion can be created using the diaphragm rather than the throat which won't wreck your voice by the time you reach old age.

Aerosmith is a Legendary band mate. Just like Metallica, Queen, Motörhead, GnR,, and a few 'select others'. Once every while, these guys just 'touch something and it turns into pure gold'. Recall Metallica's re-do of NEM with the classical orchestra?,.. just.. WOW... This is a comparable piece of art: Only the trúe masters of music are able to come up with this, and ... just DO it.. NAIL it.. ACE it... w/e you wanna call it: This is why they are considered 'Gods' :)

I was born in 1994 and I love music from the entire 20th century from the 1900s to the 1990s. When it comes to music, I live by the saying, "Variety is the spice of life." I don't have anything against today's music. I mean, I like Bruno Mars and Imagine Dragons. However, I will be honest about one thing. While I like hip hop and rap as much as the next person, I despise music that involves twerking or anything related to such dancing, such as this song for instance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3qQioxrpZWop5o

I'm in my late 40s. Well I remember some of the White heavy metal kids in the lunchroom complaining about this song, but for the most part a lot of people thought it was cool. Man, the '80s were great, but it also sucked. Our high school was so "self" segregated, Black & Latino hip hop culture on one side of the cafeteria, White heavy metal/hard rock culture on the other, and few isolated tables with Goth. People were so stupid. I didn't even go the lunchroom by sophomore year cuz I didn't want to be part of this West Side Story bullshit. Even I was brainwashed and felt I couldn't listen to Heavy Metal music, because.......heavy metal was racist?!?!? Mind you, this was a freaking Catholic private school. I can't even imagine how bad it was in public school. I finally started listening to Heavy Metal when I went to college in 1990 and I discovered I loved AC/DC, Metallica, etc. I deprived myself of good music because i let my stupid teen brain get brainwashed by society's bullcrap. Funny, I met a lot of White kids in college who discovered they loved Hip Hop music AFTER high school for the same reasons.

I was only 5 or 6 yrs old when this came out and I loved it so much that my mom would let me stay up every night until this video played on MTV. I didn’t find out until a few years later that there was an original version of the song that didn’t have Run DMC in it.

I was reading the comment sections and i thought i found my favorite one: the one written by Darwin Walker right above this comment, about how epic this video / was at the time considering that back then combining rock music and hip hop in creating a song, especially one using a previously released song by Aerosmith was groundbreaking. But your comment is now officially my favorite. These rappers and even some pop stars engaging in petty twitter insults & beefs most likely out of wanting attention & because they are just plain dumb ((which are also sadly covered by the online news outlets in abundance over stupid twitter wars)) rather than putting out groundbreaking music is such a shame. I wasn't even born until the first week of October 1990 and "Walk This Way" is one of my top favorite songs.

I think my favorite bit is the fact that Run, D.M.C., Steve, and Joe are so good at looking annoyed with each other - it would be all too easy for the bunch of them to just lip sync without bothering to act. It's also pretty impressive that during the last verse, Steve gives a pretty relaxed vocal, allowing Run-D.M.C. to have the lead until the final chorus, when Steve kicks it into high gear. Sad that Steve's vocals are no longer doable, but it's not like he owes us anything anymore.
