As someone with the 20 year cape in RS3, I can say that all my best memories of this game were from Runescape Classic. Before the game turned into a grind and a chore, it was just a fun game I found on Miniclip. I got to attack people anywhere in the game before there were "PVP worlds." I bought my first rune long sword from the Champions guild because at that time, that was the only place to get one. I got to witness BlueRose13x make the first ever Rune Kite Shield, which was a big deal because it was the best in slot shield and was only obtained through smithing...and then watched her become the first 99 smith. I celebrated with my friend when he saved up for months and bought a rune battleaxe for 900k, which was an unheard of amount of money to me at the time. I got to see the first ever dragon medium helmet drop from the the KBD. I got scammed for 200k buying what I thought was a Dragon Battle Axe but was instead a bronze one before they adjusted the colors and gave dragon weapons a unique color and picture. I was in the Varrock smithing hut with Zezima as he offered free smithing to anyone on his path to 99. I got to pick up Christmas crackers, Santa hats, and masks off the ground and give them away to friends because never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd be here 20 years later and they'd be worth something. I've quit Runescape now as of 3 years ago, with the exception of logging in for the 20 year cape. I transitioned to RS3 because all of my friends did, and they're all gone as well. This was a nice trip down memory lane, but a shame it didn't include RS Classic. I miss that game and the feeling of logging in to play with friends I've never met but felt like I'd known my whole life.

@@taserrr I mean the skill ceiling is pretty high in OSRS. A new player will never be able to kill a veteran. Luck just isn't a big enough factor which is a good thing.
@mizmuth2 жыл бұрын
@@taserrr Ticks are integral to osrs pvp. You can just say "I suck at OSRS PvP because all I do is click a special attack." Trust you will loose every fight just doing that. You've either never done pvp or just don't understand it. The only pvp I can think that is literally point and click is obby mauling with 1 attack, but even then you would likely be bringing a range or magic switch; This actually got fleshed out a bit when warhammers got changed to only require strength and no attack level. Stacking someone out with 2 or 3 weapons takes a lot of time and practice as you need to land everything within 1 tick (that 2.4s time frame to do all your switches, all your prayers, all your magic) otherwise you're screwed and have lost your kill potential. You might be able to argue your point with a dclaw rusher, but there's a reason noone brings them. They are ridiculously expensive. In RS3 I can earn millions doing literally nothing but redeeming my daily spins as a f2p player. In OSRS many many items actually have value, from the oldest items to the newest. I could transfer literally just 300m in OSRS and have over a max cash stack in RS3. Money actually means something in OSRS and I just cannot say the same for RS3. No matter how many gold sinks they put in the game it literally can't keep up with how much Jagex themselves injects. RS3 has sooo many issues that coincide with pvp it's childish to think RS3 pvp is better in any way. To a new player, likely YOU, it looks simple. If you want to actually win fights, it just isn't. RS3 pvp feels like I'm using a handful of my 40 billion abilities to do damage AND you don't have to worry about combat switches. RS3 pvp doesn't get views for a reason, it is truly god awful and requires far less skill than OSRS. Stand in one place 90% of the time because you aren't trying to land an ice barrage and brid into a full range set, then immediately switching back to full mage to bait their prayer, then switching to melee and running up to them but not attacking to bait their specs (or speccing them out with veng if they do spec out). Hybrid and tribrid pk just doesn't happen in rs3. They are both point and click, maybe even more so in rs3's case where everything is on your screen at once. Your comment is literally a troll post from a noob who knows nothing of either game. Maybe take a look at the bigger picture before you spew brain damage in a comment section.

I like the fact they poll and care but osrs is the biggest example of why design by committee doesn't work when a majority of the voting committee doesn't understand game design on a fundamental level.

Runescape is iconic. I'm 19. From latvia, Eastern Europe. When I was 7 my brother (9) and I would go to the day center where there were other kids, games and a couple of computers on which you could book 30 minute slots. Now that's how I discovered runescape, because the kids on those computers were playing it. So guess what we did? We booked our slots eventually in the morning and went to play runescape, sometimes for longer as no on was in que for the computer. Such emotional memories for me seeing the graphic of this game, as for me at that time, it was the greatest thing in the world for this kid who didn't have much else.

As an avid RS3 player, I absolutely love OSRS content. Whenever I'm skilling I'll be probably watching OSRS videos, you name it: Iroman series, Area locked accounts, PVP videos and of course, love me some By Release. I starter playing RS back in 05, as a kid I was amazed at how much there was to do in game even tho i remained F2P forever... I once tried to buy memebership by literally sending money on a paper envelope, no need to say I didn't get it. Of course I told no one about this and still wonder to this day who on earth recieved an envelope with foreign money in the US. When I came back 5 years ago, I fell in love with RS3, the combat felt new, there was so much new stuff to explore, quests to do, bosses to kill... I even tried OSRS for a bit but it was too late, I didn't enjoy it as much anymore. From time to time I'll still hop on OSRS for a few days to try out some stuff but It's just not for me even tho it was the game that made me so interested in MMOs. I appreciate the rundown of memory lane, riots were so relevent. Also, thanks for not shitting on RS3 more than it rightfully deserves to. Just as you guys have a hard time with the slow updates and content we also have our struggles. Endgame content is ridiculously fun but the servers are not helping at all, getting lagged out and killed and having to pay a few mills becasue the server farted is a though pill to swallow, also MTX were running out of control a couple years ago, still there, but a lot more OK with them now. I've heard that Jaxeg is still hiring people with knowledge on Unreal Engine 3 so we might get a new RS game up to modern standards... and maybe, just maybe we can all enjoy the one true Runescape toghether again. Lovely content mate, keep enojoying what you do and the rewards it brings your way!

RS3 has its fair share of problems (MTX and dead content mainly for me), but I feel that even today it gets pretty unjustly shit on by a lot of the OSRS community. EoC was pretty messy on release, but now it's definitely a fairly competent system. I think a lot of people see it, refuse to try and learn about it at all, and then just call the game bad. I would know, because I used to be one of those 07 players that dumpstered on it all the time. Then Darkscape came out, I tried it, and then quickly moved to RS3 because I realized it was actually super fun. Plus it helped that I was still able to use the same account I had since middle school. I know a lot of people complain about "easy scape" and "free xp" but as an adult with a job and other things going on in life, getting a couple thousand xp in a skill every day ain't shit unless you're buying keys en mass, then you have a whole nother problem on your hands.

@@bransonallen2925 some people say that EOC is better now, but I just don't see it. To me it's still soulless, not runescape. Also it's clunky and the animations are sometimes far behind what is actually happening. It's like a bad mobile game.
@ripwildy20223 жыл бұрын
@@schmidth EoC was an absolute shitshow on release tbh. a big part of this was the fact that older content just wasn't optimised with EoC in mind, and the combat system felt detached to the rest of the game. and yes, the animation delay and stuff are still wonky af, even today. but the overall system is much more coherent now. bosses and mobs use mechanics that are designed with EoC in mind. you have tons of ways to customise/enhance your weapons with "perks" that synergise with abilities. weapons and armor have passive abilities and special attacks that are integrated into the combat system as well.
@RuiRuichi3 жыл бұрын
@@schmidth Even a lot of RS3 players nowadays still think EOC underachieved and would want it replaced with a better one that doesn't rely on old and legacy aspects. Personally I feel the same way. I would not be opposed if both games collabed and made crossover content, rewarding the player for logging into both versions of the game. A Quest revolving around two parallel universes (OS & RS3) that requires you to log in between both games would be completely meta af. I imagine that this quest would be started by talking to the Barkeep at the Blue Moon Inn, (in either version of the game) who finally convinces you that his existential crisis may indeed have some validity, while also roping you into this unsettling rabbit hole. I think it could work as a short series where you hop between both games and slowly peel back the layers of reality, driving your player mad. On the oldshool side of this adventure, you try to convince the museum/digsite staff that in another universe, you are able to travel through a time pocket that brings you to Fossil Island during prehistoric times, known in that universe as Anachronia. Of course, they all dismiss you as a delusional mad man, so you have to do something drastic to prove your claim. The game then prompts you to log into RS3 to travel to Anachronia to 'plant' evidence somewhere on the island that you will find later in "Present Day" Anachronia, which is Fossil Island. Then you log back in to OSRS and find the very spot on fossil island to dig up your 'evidence'. Needless to say, the archaeologists are baffled. They still don't believe you, but they can't disprove what they are dealing with. They can't think of any possible way you could have faked it. From here, you can finish the quest in either version of the game, and here's where the end twist happens. A Dragonkin present in both versions of the game appears before you while you're alone, warning you to stop pulling this thread. "Cease this at once! You don't know what you're getting into." This only makes you want to pry even further! Then a few more quests spin out of the rails from here. You find out that several more NPCs in both games are also fully aware of the nature of their existence, and why they are staying silent about it. You start asking questions in RS3, like: "What ever happened to the Kingdom of Kourend? I can find nothing about it at the Varrock Library!" Reldo (who is also/actually Charos, spoilers) tries to convince you not to look into it, but with enough prodding, he relents and tells you why he singlehandedly tried to scrub all records of Great Kourend from the mainland's history. In OSRS, you set out to try to find the lost temple of guthix you explore during The World Wakes in RS3, but some agents put up heavy resistance trying to stop you because they believe your meddling will kickstart another God Wars, just like it kinda did in RS3. Your player is baffled that they know about this. HOW MUCH DEEPER DOES THIS GO?? Basically, that's my pitch. Literal Reality Shattering conspiracies that span both games! TELL ME IT CAN'T BE DONE! THE BLUEPRINTS ARE THERE!
@RivaRiva2223 жыл бұрын
There's so many things they could implement without breaking the game into evolution territory which would cause upset Me personally I would love if they implemented stuff that reflected the history OSRS has or even events which reflected what they tried between games just to bridge them a bit more. An event which allowed a player to enter portals to replay their reworks of tutorials (underneath the Lumbridge inn dragon etc.) for a reward.

Yeah, the problem is not polls. People act like polls are holding content back, but I'm fairly certain every polled quest has passed, and they're still only releasing a handful of quests each year (as opposed to 22 in 2006, or 29(!) in 2005). The problem is that the devs don't even seem to be working on new content - just poorly thought out changes like nerfing black dragonhide when its had its same stats for nearly two decades, or rehashes of existing content, like different TOB difficulties (and calling the easiest one a "quest"), or fighting six bosses at once. Anything that's optional and cosmetic, yeah, absolutely push it through without a poll. (And they certainly do plenty of non-polled things anyway, like screwing up the region music.) But for actual, significant game changes, keep the community involved.

@@Gamer2k4 honestly I think equipment rebalancing is important for game longevity and to make room for legitimately relevant new content. I don't really see why people are mad when the Nerf exists to make a slot for a new bit of content *shrug* that fills the gap.

About 8 months ago, it finally happened, and I happily and quietly entered "Runescape retirement". Retirement lasted all of three months. After that, I booted up oldschool. I made a hardcore ironman - mostly only interested in replaying the f2p content for a hit of nostalgia over summer here (I work for a college - we've been out of session). ... I am now firmly entrenched in the game again, and it has been a dream. I feel like I've reunited with lost family. I feel at home, like I'm back where I belong - doing the things I love to do. @@ELEcomments It obviously is annoying, but part of me has hope that these unfinished quest series are eventually going to get the Fremmenik Exiles and Song of the Elves treatment. Just gotta be patient until then.

That ending was so simple, yet unexpectedly perfect.

4:25 Quick note on the I Mahatma I clip: When the whip was initially introduced, the spec would actually either hit max (your max hit or the opponent's HP, whichever was smaller) or 0 (with a 50% chance of either occurring). With 50% accuracy, you very well could hit double max hits (as was shown in that clip), well above the expected value of two dagger specs (since that takes the same amount of time), especially on armor. The dagger was mainly there for the poison, IIRC.
