People might hate Desert Treasure, but to me, it remains as one of the most memorable quests to me, just because of the story. Initially you just start out as a normal adventurer that will help out this archeologist unveil a hidden treasure, but the more you progress through the quest, the less it becomes about just some treasure, you go around collecting the 4 diamonds, which has the coolest themes ever: Blood, Smoke, Shadow and Ice. As you finally defeat the guardians and collect their respective diamonds, you return to the pyramid and ascend, and you discover that there was no literal treasure, but something greater... I am a sucker for quests that give you permanent power, this is why I love this quest for the story, because it feels like your character has unlocked more of his potential, same can be said with the Temple at Sentisten quest.

I dont think that's the case, I think its that this "runescript" DSL developed for defining quest logic and stuff is written in a more functional style. From the short description on the wiki, it looks like it was developed for things like NPC dialogue where you're just scripting out a set of actions with minimal logic. My take on the first story is that the intern probably came up with some hacky ways of doing what he wanted to do by writing logic in these runescript files that didnt really have any place being there. He probably had to implement his own classes to create things that did not exist yet, and maybe the system wasnt really intended for that kind of thing to be done from within the scope of what this intern was working on, and that led to bugs down the line
@tomcheng39034 жыл бұрын

This sounds like a relatively successful intern program if you ask This Fellow. A few interns produced a good deal of valuable content. Yeah sure they didn't always use good software practices, but that's not too uncommon for college graduates and a few years experience will have them on the right track. As for the problem of tying down a whole developer, this is often completely necessary in the short run because for a company to have a solid long-term outlook, they need to be able to hire new people and those new hires need to have a senior developer get them up to speed. The alternative is that you have a few really solid developers for a while and then you're company's done for if a few of them quit.

Lmfao sounds like the interns did some of the most iconic and best quest in the entire game. Almost makes me think the regular devs kinda suck.

Only disastrous part of their intern programme is that actual Fagex employees didnt check their work... I mean they let an intern write an entire quest in unknown code AND post it to the live game.

Yep, how in the hell did they not expect to have to fix their shitty code? Sounds like the epic pros at Jagex at the time weren't that experienced either.

So the most important quests are created by interns, yet it was a "disaster"? Bring more interns!

Still thought monkey madness and desert treasure were great quests
