He wasn't the only one to break the chest but it seemed like there was an agreement to leave the Vet world chest working, I played a lot during this time and only recall the chest on the Vet world breaking once and the servers would be restarted once every few months (server restarts fixed the chest). Bugged NPC's were a big problem too. The longer the server went without a restart the more NPCs became un-attackable

Long live private servers. Honestly, the biggest nails in the coffin were removing classic's F2P and then shutting down the ability to play if you didn't log in in 2005/2006. It was staggering since then.

There were tons of bugs and content was literally broken until server restarts due to bug abuse. The lack of support for the game was its demise. The good thing is though, private servers. I've got nothing against them. I even ran my own so a few friends could mess around on it with a local server and low ping since most RSPS are hosted on the other side the world to me.

A solution for the chest could've been just having the game servers reboot automatically once every 2-3 days. It would've probably fixed some other instance-based issues as well. It's a bandaid fix, but would've gotten the job done to make players lives a bit easier up until its shutdown.

I really never understand why Jagex could not have just assigned one single mod to check up on classic once a week. That's it. That's all it would have required. A couple of hours a week to reset the server or to fix any little bugs that crop up but nope seems that was too much to ask. It's a shame. Much as the RSC private servers are fun they are just not the same as the real thing. And yes it was full of bots and glitches before it was shut down but I still miss it.

Because paying a dev 60k+ a year to update a game with 200 average players 95% of which being bots is actually insane. Your talking about paying someone 60k to update a game mode only about 10 actual people are playing at any given time. Not to mention by fixing one thing you could break 10 others considering how old the code was there was probably all kinds of things integrated with each other and things that wouldn't make sense to do in today's world or without context of why they did that at the time.

For me it would be pre-desert treasure era, slayer was then already added to the game couple months earlier, miss those times. PK'ing was such a blast back then and alot more simple. Aces Of Spades was only ditched because everyone stopped caring for it since Jagex ruined it. Essentially turned it into what is considered now a Hero Shooter. It's why the game now is open-sourced in 3 variants all compatible->the Original Ace of Spadez, Build and Shoot, and Openspades. There is also an indie game in development called Born to Build that's in development. Oddly enough there is even a Robox version of it that somewhatfunctionsn the same. Pretty neato.

Thank you for mentioning Ace of Spades, albeit briefly. That game rocked. I played the hell out of it before I ever knew about Runescape. I think it'd be interesting to look at the history of Ace of Spades, everyone talks about funorb but nobody talks about it, or Block N' Load, which was similar-ish but had more moba mechanics. That game rocked too. I don't know why Jagex were so interested in Class-Based Build-and-Shoot FPS games. I think there's an interesting video topic in there for you. "Jagex's Forgotten First Person Shooters" And if you want an interesting factoid to put in there, here's one for you! When Block N' Load launched, you could spend RS3 Bonds for a free steam key of it, which makes it the only video game you could buy with Runescape Gold.

This reminds me of Cartoon Network's Fusion Fall MMO. Some bad actors figured out game breaking bugs and the game became unplayable. NPCs got despawned - quests broken, bank access denied. Making it worse is how the MMO was basically left to on house development since before the first year. The original contracted company to run the game went under without telling the parent company; as a result, the same department running the Cartoon Network WEBSITE now had full fledged Unity engine MMO to run. Poor game, the planned vision didn't get a chance to fly.

I was the reason the final boss kept de-spawning; it was not a bug but my interacting with the boss. I can't recall if it was due to me attempting to spawn the boss myself or if it was due to me attacking with ranged (you can see me wielding a bow in the video).

I am one of those who completed Legends's Quest on the final day Had the account trained somewhat before then and only a few skills (mining/agility/fishing) and couple of quests left before Legends I spent final 2 weeks to complete training the skills and didn't sleep for 24 hours on the final day to complete the remaining quests Spent 14 hours on Legends, i was so worried that i couldn't complete it due to how difficult the fight with the demons were Nevertheless, it was such a great memory I even screen recorded the whole Legends's Quest journey Back to RSC closing, I totally thought the crystal chest bugs was the real reason back then I have to be honest, despite being sad to see the game go and I love the game so much, even if RSC had stayed, I am sure I wouldn't have played it regularly
