@@ekoari1318 very true. These athletes go through very personal trials in order to succeed. And most of them are very young and easily exploited by corrupt officials. Fortunately, there's a growing number of "veteran" runners who guide the rising teenagers.

That's a total of 9.3 miles @ 4;25/mile pace (66 seconds/400 meters). At high altitude. And Eliud says he never goes harder than 80% effort in training. So I guess it's no surprise that he can run 26.2 consecutive miles at around 4:39/mile in competition.

Amazing closeup at 1:25 and 2:05 especially at 0.25x speed, you can see all the runners are landing on midfoot (not forefoot, or heel)

phil durre - What are you smoking? That dirt track might cost them 1 second per km, but is still fast and much more forgiving than pavement.

obviously you have never been running on dirt at similar speed, yes it is better for the joints, but small stones slow you down tremendously

phil durre - I've been running for 47 years and was a world-class runner for 23. I prefer running on dirt to the road (which explains my longevity in the sport). I know precisely how much slower dirt, gravel, grass and altitude are compared to running on the road or the track at sea level. BTW, there are no small stones on the track in this video.

This would be threshold pace training for Eliud. 2'47 x 15 = 41'45 in total, seems natural as threshold pace training. This must be harder training pace for most of the other runners with Eliud.

This session was executed at TEMPO/10k pace. For these elite runners the rest time of 1:45 was easy since it's normal to get a minute rest.

Default Name, I agree with your comment, howeve correct me if I'm wrong - most runners are aware of TWO types of tempo runs. The first Tempo run is executed at 10k pace and the second is at a pace you can mantain for about and hour. Therefore in my commenta -that's why I stipulated Tempo at 10k pace. @@NurBull As a Kenyan runner, I have come to realize that what we do here is almost not by the books. I have had sessions with world class elites (The biggest name being Wilson Kipsang) and we have actually walked 100m then jogged 100m. Sometimes we walk 50m and jog 50m.

So this is like Zatopek territory here? He used to do like forty 400's if that is accurate. That is 16000 meters and this workout is 15000 at altitude I imagine. These runners are running these very fast with a two minute recovery in between. If this video is accurate then I would say it shows a legendary workout of BRUTAL proportions. This would seem to be a Herculean effort. Anyone who has trained in running would understand what I mean. Someone correct me if I am wrong here.
