I had this syndrome for almost 5 weeks and watched a lot of videos about it. But this video is by far the best one. Super informative. Straight to the point. Just for the people suffering the same injury. Some tips: 1. Please be patient. 2. Listen to what is said in this video 3. Don't bother watching any other one (except for ways to strengthen the Glutes Medius) 4. Go for a physiotherapist.

I’ve had knee pain in the past mainly dull from walking long distances, and sometimes sharp pain in that area when doing squats or leg extensions. I had walked about 5 miles today at work in new shoes I got for christmas and I felt fine most of the day. By the end of my shift I was in excruciating pain in that exact spot where the IT band is on my left knee. I struggled to walk to my car in the parking lot and couldn’t wait to sit down. I’ve been in bed now for a while trying to massage the area. I suspect I have a slightly longer leg than the other. Thank you for this video it helped me to understand more of what I’m dealing with

@@ProfBellemans Is it possible piriformis syndrome on the opposite side has created the itb problem? It seems I have a number of problems all linked with the hipnarea
@ProfBellemans4 жыл бұрын
@@petevernon8549 Yes Pete, that is a possibility. We will address the piriformis syndrome in a future video, but I can already confirm that a piriformis syndrome will have an influence on hip dynamics and subsequently may have a negative impact on the ITB. In that case, make sure you get the piriformis well under control (which is not always easy).

This kind of information is what every doctor should give their patients regarding this syndrome. I've had this for several months now, I've been to the doctor twice and to 18 sessions of physical therapy in between, and they never explained this to me. By the way, I'm still not fully recovered but I feel that if I had known this before hand it would've made everything a lot easier.

Hey! Great video, really appreciate it. Is there any correlation between ITB friction syndrome and pain behind the knee? I've had friction on the IT-band for a couple of years, and the pain has always been located where you showed in the video. But recently pain has also started to occur behind my knee after I've been on a long hike in the mountains, after skiing and after training legs. Pain also occurs behind the knee when I'm contracting the hamstring, specifically when my leg is fully extended. If there isn't a correlation, please forward me to a video which covers pain behind the knee. Thanks in advance! :)

Heel interessant! Sommige bronnen suggereren dat je IT-band op zichzelf niet kan stretchen, maar enkel de spieren die aangehecht aan deze IT-band. Klopt dit professor?

Good point. The discussion is somewhat theoretical, since the final goal is to reduce tension in the overall iliotibial tract. Whether this occurs most effectively through muscle and/or fibrous tract stretching is less important, and probably variable from athlete to athlete depending on several factor such as intrinsic collagen quality, muscle tightness, etcetera...

Fantastic explanation - I have subscribed. I am an amateur cyclist and am experiencing pain on the lateral side of the knee - about an inch or two below the knee. Feels like IT band pain but it is below the knee. As I look at an anatomical diagram - the pain seems to be at the point where the Fibularis Longus muscle attaches (which BTW is really developed as are my calf muscles from doing ~200K week on the bike (age 60). I seem to feel it as I rotate my foot. Is there an equivalent friction syndrome here? Could it be where the IT band actually attaches at the knee? Thanks so much!
