This actually helps me with an uninstall. My Ram came with those same running boards installed and I was looking to spraying them black. I never looked to see how they were attached. Now that I see, it shouldn’t be hard to remove them. Thumbs up as usual from a fellow visual learner.

I probably should have named the video uninstall anyways lol. That's exactly what I wanted to do to mine (powder coat black) before they literally just rusted off. Hahaha.

It was a good video you made that makes me feel aware of what could have happened to me if I didn't do it right the first time. over torque te bolts will pull the nuts from the frame holes stretching the holes and making the connection weak to start with rust taking over to finish the "fast quick install job "

Was backing up - front drivers side popped right off. Now its difficult to get that little notch in the slot.

You're right about that man! My neighbor has a ram and he was just talking about that a while ago. Same thing happened to him. Apparently ram was supposed to put some kind of protective barrier like this queen between that mud flap and the met al but a lot of the models did make it out of the manufacturing plant with it. So that mud flap vibrates and rubs against the steel while little pieces of dust and dirt get in there and acts like sandpaper. Thanks for the reminder. I definitely need to check that out soon.

I'm curious did you weld in some additional metal and or add any type of support bracket from the frame?

What year is your truck? Who installed the running boards? Did you buy it like that? I'm a beast and I have bought a brand-new 2016 Ram eco diesel that I have installed the running boards by myself .holes in the frame were factory made. Older models were just marked were holes needed to be drilled, I've coated the quick nuts that came in the kit, with antiseize compound before compression to avoid corrosion, also I made some rubber plastic washers and installed in between braket and frame. I didn't use an impact to attach the bolts.I didn't let dealer to install any thing on my truck , I've seen lots stuff came loose after a while from vehicles that had a poor install. Hey Nick, I'm actually not sure who installed the running boards. I am second owner of this truck. I bought it used. I feel like they did not did the proper job. Rust like this should not happen if they had been correctly! Thanks for watching brother!

Same exact issue on my 2016 Ram. I'm currently searching for frame mounted running boards, no luck. You end up getting it repaired or finding another running board mounting option? Or you just gonna leave it bare? I have a light lift with larger rubber making it sporty to get in without the boards.

Hey Tom, so a few months after I made this video repairing the running board, to friends jumped in passenger side front seat and back and stepped on it at the same time and it gave way! Ripped right out of the truck! So I threw in the towel said forget it I just took the other side off..... It's a little harder to get into the truck but I think it looks better anyway.

Your video says "installation" yet you "removed". I'm trying to install a set with the same lame crush nuts that don't crush and only spin when trying to set the crush nut to the body. It's a real crappy design and I'm looking for an alternative mounting solution rather than using the crappy supplied crush nut hardware.

@@bigdaddyshouse new truck will solve the problem, when I got it before I signed the deal I've asked the dealer for a quote on some accessories I've seen on the floor model, was about 8 thousands dollars. Then I said if they include that in the truck price I'll buy it. after market floor mats ,running boards, mud flaps, hard aluminum box cover, fender flares, diamond kote paint protection interior protection undercarriage, so I was busy for few days installing everything by my self. I am happy with the 3 liter ecodiesel engine so far is good, engine oil change at the dealer is over 400 $ cdn, I live in Calgary. It's better to have a pu truck we're getting our good share of snow during long winter, TX Nick
