How do coaches get runners faster? In this interview I jump inside the mind of Coach Jason Fitzgerald ‪@StrengthRunning‬ -- We cover the assessment and intake process, the planning, the how he gets #runners faster. We also explore lifetime miles, fast twitch versus slow twitch, and somehow make it the entire time without diving into "double threshold."
We don't just talk marathon training. We talk speed work. We talk many many things running. You really should just give it a watch, like and subscribe to the channel already.
Also, I may have a new coach?
Lastly, these interviews do take a lot of time that is not really available for me currently, so I will be switching back to shoes and other running related matters. The video imported from Riverside has a weird flicker type of effect and has nothing to do with Jason's camera or computer. I'm still working out the kinks on my end. Looks like I'll be leaving the podcasting to Jason Fitzgerald.

Wow, an interview with the GOAT! Jason is awesome. I’ve actually considered hiring him. (He’s on the short list as I level up this year and going forward -this midlifer over here can’t do it alone anymore!)

Awesome job. That guy is good. I'd hire him if I had $$. But also you can get there on your own. But no harm in getting outside feedback. Best thing i ever did was join a run club and learn from ppl and you help push and pull each other. Really like what he said about season, don't to the Marathon only.

Nice interview. Great questions. He was such a pro in his answers. He is a no-nonsense coach and podcaster. If you can afford him, why not. Didn't he indirectly call you a nerd with regards to slow vs fast twitch physiology? 😂

The mental toughness is what you need to work on. You have the half marathon time to equate sub 3 marathon effort. Steady pacing, getting your nutrition correct and keeping your rest/ stress under control before the race is what you need and have. Your self doubt along the race slows you down. I went from a 3:40 to a 2:57 once I really understood how to really train for the marathon. You are there. Just need to execute. I'll be at Boston in a couple of weeks.

I’m looking forward to developing more speed work sessions in my next block with appropriate pacing strategy, and not rely on HR all the time. However, I caught myself today doing 10x800’s and found that had I locked into an arbitrary target pace, I would have been running much slower than what I could. That is, when I ran 10x800 w/ HR; afterwards I was surprised to see resulting pace was 1 min faster then the pacing I otherwise would have set as a target (how do I scrub this noob-label off my forehead??) anyway thanks for another great interview it’s because of you that

@@MidLifeRunner I believe Jason when he says he’s had crazy readings from the watch but I used to use a Nike chest strap and would get crazy readings from that too. I think crazy readings happen no matter what.

Andrew please please forget HR training!!! Jason just told you the pitfalls. Equipment error, terrain, temperature and so many other variables. Absolutely hire him or Sage!! These guys are experienced runners unlike others. All you need is one more training block and great conditions. I have a coach and he got me to sub 3:00 at 52 y/o!!!
