Running No A/C Service Calls on a Split System and a Package Unit

First service call was a Ruud/Rheem Heat Pump split system with some defrost control board issues. Second system was a package unit we recently installed, having some issues.
We resolved both issues, but let me know if you think we were right or wrong on the diagnosis.

Little bit of both. He's been with me since last July so I've been instructed to see if he's ready for summer in his own truck this year. Trying to let him learn by making mistakes. Certain calls for certain customers I take the lead on though

the systems were so much more reliable when there were no circuitboards outside...the hot/cold always breaks solder joints.

id agree and say more money gets you more parts that add to efficiency but that also means more things to fail. with todays economy companies are making things cheaper and increasing the price tag. basic systems that are installed well last just as long as high end and alot cheaper on repairs and full installs

@fiilow7501 Yeah, at the end of the day I've seen more basic systems last longer and keep people comfortable than higher end communicating systems. Just slapping in a high seer system doesn't always work

​@@AB_HVACIts usually why a board fails, a solder point fails because they dont use enough solder these days and circuit boards arent designed to be in temp extremes and the ones in outside units depending on where you live go through severe swings over the years and it can crack joints. Not saying its always the case but it seems to be a lot.

Now if there is a fault the unit will continue to run…the control board is defective…jumping is ONLY for testing purposes and never for a “repair”…some control boards break the common on a fault and some break the y out

So explain how just making a dedicated C for the contactor is an issue? I didn't bypass any pressure switches. The defrost can still work, so I'm confused.

@@AB_HVAC if you bypass the C then you have in a sense bypassed the board cause it breaks the C on a fault…I’m not trying to bust any balls or have a pissing contest…just attempting to get a little education out of

dont rheem have 2 flashing light to tell you the fault come on

That fault would tell me if the pressure switches were acting up or a defrost sensor issue, I've never had them flash for that Yout CC terminals not sending voltage. Everything was find until the board had to send that voltage out. And you can't always put your faith in the flash codes, they tend to just point you in a direction
