Timbo ~ Very good, super tones and intonation. Can't believe no one has made a comment here. Lindley is the best. He plays every stringed instrument, I think. This whole song is made by his guitar playing. Thank you. And what kind of guitar is that?

Sounds great! As an aside, I've heard that Mr Dave's trick was to crank up to Open F so he didn't have to run as high up the board.

Thanks! He actually has some of his guitars tuned all the way up to Open A. For this song, for sure. Also that youtube with GE Smith called Play All Night.

Me, too! I wonder which one of those amps he was using. I was trying to play along and figger it out, but I couldn't get it. Until I took my Charlie's Capo and put it in the 5th fret and everything just fell into place.

Beautiful! What tuning are you in? My bandmate plays this in G so I need to transpose to this key, but I will be in standard tuning. I'm sure I'll need to adjust and probably play some licks as single notes. One day I hope to build a DIY lap steel, partly to play this wonderful song. You did a super job!! Thank you for posting this!

Wow! Thank you! I had that tuned to Open E. Pretty sure Mr. Lindley tunes to Open A for this song. You need some pretty skinny strings to tune that high.

@@timboh.533 thank you! I will see what I can do in standard, but I may go to open G since that would fit a song in G. Have a great day!

@@timboh.533 Glad that you said in this post what tuning you were in. I would've tried to mimic your moves. Lindley does tune to open A but the root is on the fifth string. I'm pretty sure it's EAEAC#E, low to high--open A. I imagine you'd need some very FAT strings and a BIG neck to tune up to A with the root on the sixth string for sure!! ;) Oh, and by the way, really great performance. The first solo is definitely in the A tuning I mentioned. I've heard that Lindley had three lap steels that he used on tour tuned to different tunings, one of them the A tuning I mentioned. I'm pretty sure that he didn't change to an E tuned lap steel to do this second solo though, man, that E tuning does certainly fit under the bar quite nicely, right? Anyway...thanks for the help...it's really nice to have the solo isolated so that I can work it out in the A tuning!!

@@billjaynes9234 Those little lap steels he plays most likely have a 22 inch scale, so there's quite a bit less tension on the neck. You could probably put a regular set of .010 gauge electric guitar strings on and tune up to A with the root on 1 and 6 with no problem. My lap steel has .016 on the 1st string, couldn't go that high , it would snap. I might change them out sometime and try it, though. I'm pretty sure that's what he does.

@@billjaynes9234 I decided to give this a try. I have a lower quality lap steel with a short scale that I never use, so I re-strung it with a set of 9.5 gauge electric guitar strings that I had laying around. Tuned it all the way up to Open A , - A,E,A,C#,E,A. It tuned right up with no problem, and was still pretty loose. Probably could go up to 11s or 12s with the short scale. He definitely plays this song in this tuning, the licks just fall right under the steel with very little effort. It's even easier to play in the 12th fret than the way I did it in this video in the 17th fret.

Every version Lindley has cut for the solo on R.O.E. is different. You nailed ONE solo.
