Thanks for watching my video. I gathered all the songs I shot at this show in a KZbin playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLwdc0qZNx0tbzrIzUAa23O_acPXB1ZmZS. The songs are In The Morning Light (Billy Strings), City Of Immigrants (Steve Earle & Emmylou Harris), My Name Is Emmett Till (Emmylou Harris), My Alice (Billy Strings), Goodbye (Steve Earle & Emmylou Harris), Raise The Dead (Emmylou Harris and Steve Earle), Running On Empty (Jackson Browne and Billy Strings), Love And Regret (Billy Strings), Jerusalem (Steve Earle and Jackson Browne), Indoor Fireworks (Elvis Costello), I Am A Patriot (Jackson Browne), While I'm Waiting Here (Billy Strings), and Pilgrim (All). Enjoy!

Thanks so much Tim. I saw Billy the night before this at Sacramento Memorial with the full band. He did a much different version of Running on Empty that brought the roof down. He's simply amazing on so many levels.

Thank You so much for playing with JB. You obviously recognize the beauty of his music and when complimenting it only add to it. I’m an old Guy but have loved JBs music since the early 70s…maybe 60s. Some of his songs like “Red Neck Friend” was an anthem for myself and Friends in our redneck hippy kind of era…. TY for helping to carry on the music.

My husband and I saw him at Frost last night (the night following this show) and I was commenting on that very thing. It was wonderful to see so many young people enjoying his bluegrass and other material. He’s doing wonders keeping pure, authentic, acoustic guitar-based music alive! 👏🏻

That was great to watch. Thanks for posting it. It put a smile on my face and warmed my heart. Both these guys are not only great musicians, but great human beings. Don't miss a chance to see Billy play live. You won't regret it. Jackson Brown played at a cancer benefit to help raise donations for the event which my schoolmate was putting on as a three time cancer survivor. That's the kind of giving soul he is. Giving of his time and talents to help others. I also had the pleasure of performing a private laser show for Jackson in a small studio. He is so aware and thoughtful. Very down to earth. It was a great experience getting to spend some time with him. As he was leaving the studio, he stopped turned around and thanked me again by name for the show. I'll never forget the positive energy of being around that man.

Billy is the most gifted guitar player the last while. Does it all, and plays with all the best musicians of the last few decades. I really want to see him come out with some, or more original songs of his own to ensure his place in history. Does he do originals?
@dhansen888
@dhansen888 Жыл бұрын
He does - IMHO he is a very talented songwriter. The songs range from straight bluegrass ("Red Daisy") to a kind of style that is based in bluegrass but has more an alt-rock feel - like "Hide and Seek" which has an extended guitar solo where billy uses his pedals a lot. It's not country--rock like we usually use the term. Some people call it psychedelic rock or jamgrass, but parts of it really do sound pretty metal, where he is shredding what is to all intents and purposes an electric guitar, like a Jimi Hendrix or a Jimmy Page style guitarist.
@CorneiliusLibowitz
@CorneiliusLibowitz Жыл бұрын
@@dhansen888 Actually, Red Daisy was written by Jarrod Walker, the mando player... He's written a few of their epic songs.... But to answer the OP, almost all the songs on the 3 studio albums, plus the EP are originals, mostly written, or co-written by Billy Strings.... I like Turmoil and Tinfoil (the album) the best of the three LP's, tho all are great and i have all 4 disks.... I highly recommend getting at least a few of their albums... That all said, from what i've seen on YT (and live shows i attended), unless it's a special run like Halloween, or playing with Bob Weir or whatever, your average show will likely have at least 50% original material, whether written by Billy, or Billy or other members of the band....

Much as I loved most of everything man I wish this would have been studio rather than live. It was noisy, like it was captured on a cell phone.
@TimBracken
@TimBracken Жыл бұрын
Yep, my camera has high-fidelity audio. That means it's capturing all the little noises you would have heard if you had been sitting in my seat: coughing, sniffling, talking, a seat being adjusted, someone crinkling a water bottle. Just like in person, at a louder performance, the music will drown out these noises, but this was a quiet acoustic show. What you want is a professional live recording from the soundboard--everything directly from the performers' microphones--which gets rid of 99% of these audience noises even at a quiet show like this. But for most concerts, you're stuck with these audience recordings. Warts and all.

In addition to the stunningly clean and hot bluegrass playing there were times when I could close my eyes and swear that I was listening to Pink Floyd. That guy is immensely talented and whoever produces his touring show is world class. The sound and the special effects sounds were amazing, as well as the light show. I went to the show expecting to be impressed, but I was absolutely blown away and amazed by what I saw and heard.

Jackson is such a generous soul. You can tell that they are both having a great time. Billy getting to play with a legend, and Jackson seeing his music being carried on by the new generation. I love it! I saw Jackson live a few years ago and he came out and sang a couple songs with Sarah and Sean Watkins, who were opening for him. They both came out during Jackon's set and played and sang with him. It was clear that they were all just enjoying themselves and taking pleasure in performing together.

Why can't an artist like Billy Strings be selected for Artist of the Year? Because he doesn't sell albums to make the record companies rich? Because he's not handsome enough or a fashion icon? God forbid that award goes to a talented musician/singer.

He did win a grammy for best bluegrass album a couple years ago. But I hear you.

Whose rating scale are you referring to? The Grammys? Maybe because, stylistically, Billy is all over the map... He wins the bluegrass awards, but he's not "country" or "rock," right?

The way Billy picks up a couple of high notes there when Jackson can’t quite hit them… There’s a lot of love between those two.

I'm 71 years old, and still perform out often. This song was such a powerful inspiration for me, and the lady who became my wife, and the mother of my family so many years ago. Having been a performer and writer (150 songs copyrighted) for my whole life, I have always noticed 'up and comings'. Billy Strings, being a major talent, I noticed him immediately, but just assumed he would be like so many others, relating only to the music of his peers, which I have to say are not that outstanding on average. But now, to my very pleasant surprise, he seems to be a spirit, like many of us, who know nothing of styles, eras, or trends, but has that amazing ability to tune in to soul, and what it is that has attracted us all to manifest here in this reality in the first place.. and that is to experience and love this world in its myriad of exciting adventures. God bless you all.

Can't imagine the feeling of playing one of Jackson Browne's songs with him, looking over and seeing him smiling.

I had a lump in my throat throughout the entire song. It was beautiful to see Billy share the stage with a legend, the great Jackson Browne. Billy is truly a musician’s musician, and he clearly reveres his elders. Excellent vocal by Billy.
