Hey Big B. I had a Popeye several years ago. What an absolutely brilliant hull. After a few weeks I junked the stock motor, probably nothing wrong with it as such but I went Leopard power still on 4s. For our local pond it was plenty quick enough (50 ish) but such a blast to drive. Mines was the yellow and blue, but I do quite like the green. Would I have another one.... absolutely!!

That's good to know brother thanks for the input, yea man the yellow one definitely looks sweet. Thanks brother

You're not alone with UL-19 running problems Big B. I've had all sorts of cooling (or lack of) issues and burned out a motor when giving her full trigger! You're bang on the money when you say you need to be on your 'A game' with this boat. Getting everything just right is painstaking work, but the rewards when she runs right are immense. A beautiful hydro for sure, but challenging to get right.
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын
Extremely challenging I'm thinking about going larger with the connectors all the way around and lower kv

I certainly enjoy my daily morning dose of Boat Gang!! As you are well aware, I like to concentrate on the smaller boats for a number of reasons, but I must admit, that TFL Popeye in yellow looks tempting...... Or maybe even the all carbon fiber hull.. ($$$$$). 😲 Maybe it's time to go big or go home......

@@IRONCLADRC Once I finish all the other projects I have in the wings (Single-Step Hydro Challenge, Micro Drifter twin, MHZ Miss Madison x 2) I may consider it. I kinda wanted to get my old LSH hydro (Campbell 1/12 Shovelnose) running again, but it could wait I suppose. We could do parallel builds on opposite sides of the continent.

Lol yup, anytime I have a flex shaft slip, I expect to see smoke and damage on both the collet and flex shaft. These ul19s are solid performers when dialed in.

@@IRONCLADRC you could always do a carbon inlay with carbon mounts and carbon bottom sponson pads. It's makes a huge difference. A guy locally did the one I own then blue printed it and it cuts the corners at wot on glass pretty gpod. Also I think I run the strut 4 mm up from bottom and level if I recall. Hope you get her dialed in!

Yikes, almost did the same thing with my one of my Miss Geico motors.. It was not tighten down enough at the factory and my motor must have moved on me and I caught it before it got super hot.. I always check my 2.5mm hex nuts and make sure they are tight when I do my greassing before all runs...I have seen this happen way to many times.. ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥

The UL-19 IS Probably one of my favorite boats to run,, I just got a lower kv motor to test hobbystar 1700kv. Fingers crossed no more melted solder

I'd suggest going up to a larger guage bullet connector like those from Castle Creations. It ought to dissipate a lot more heat. Let's say you're running 12awg, I'd personally use one of CC's 6mm bullets with the kinda power system you're running.
@IRONCLADRC2 жыл бұрын
Currently running 6.0mm connectors from ose so I may do to a cc6.0 thanks

Hi Big B, When are you going to throw the 160A spektrum ESC into the sonicwake V2 and rip that on 8S? I have done it, now 11 runs on 8S - 100C spektrum smart packs, stock prop, and no smoke c'mon. It's a real blast mate.

Are you running the included 4074 2050kv & 180 "stock electronics?" If so how are they holding up?
@VelocityKings2 жыл бұрын
@@IRONCLADRC just the 180amp ESC. Changed motor to a TP 4050 can around 1500 kv give or take. ABC prop. Bigger collet and Qs8 connectors. Bigger curved turn fin as well. Had to make a bracket for it but that wasn't an issue.

Love to see you run your boats wide open for several laps at a time, noting how you tune them to turn sharp while maintaining speed. Smoke happens! Had a AquaCraft hydroplane not on par with the ProBoat hydroplane but a blast when holding the trigger down the whole time ! Have you ever had a tunnel hull? and please do elaborate more on you dads adventures racing pickle forks, love to here it! Great video once again big B. Thanks

Prop the. Oat down put some thing like a 1614abc prop or 1516abc prop. That should allow 6s operation w/ stock electronics

I wouldn't suggest it with the stock electronics, that being said, get a ose dual pickup rudder cool esc motor independently and prop the boat down with something like a 1614abc prop. That should allow 6s operation with stock electronics
