I purchased a set of these in October 2021 275/70/18 (33 inch) for my 2016 F150 FX4. The tires replaced a set of BFG K02. I was looking at another set of KO2s or Falken Wildpeaks. In the end, I chose the x-trails. The tires are extremely quiet, quieter than the outgoing tire. So far in mud, snow and road I have no complaints. Traction seems great. My l/100 km seems to have taken a hit by about 1-1.5 l/100 however, I attribute this to a heavier tire with 100% tread life and winter driving - which generally yields worse MPG. I paid about $1000 for a set of 4, compared to between $1700-$1800 for a set of k02 or Falkens. So far I’m happy with my purchase.

if you were to have the choice of picking a cooper AT3 4S or an X trail Eliminator which would you pick? also sorry if I've repeated, but Cooper made the X trails for CNT. I know I will be happy with either 633.00$ for the X trails, and 707.00 $ for the Cooper'sAT3 4s, but, you get a 70 rebate after you buy them and send them in the mail lol so...4$ is the difference in price. 90,000 estimated km X trails, and 105,000 for the Coopers...

@@chadolive1 Tough question. I’ve never driven the 4S so can’t really speak to it. I did look at one the other day and thought the tread pattern looked less aggressive than the x-trails. I remember thinking to myself “I bet those get better MPG than what I’m running”. If priced the same at the time of my purchase, I would have probably gone with the 4S. Only because it’s probably been around longer and therefore more proven than the x-trail.

Have driven through dry & rainy weather, city driving and highway. Also light snow but looking forward to its handling of heavier snow out in the countryside through different counties in a few weeks, as well as some trails/light off-roading in the spring/summer.

You will never get a tire that is very good on ice And Mud, they are just two different tires with different needs at manufacture, you will however get a tire that is great on snow/ ice and decent in the mud or a tire that is great in the mud and alright in the snow / ice. At the end of the day you have to be true with yourself a decide what you actually drive in the most and maybe think about a dedicated off-road tire switch vs when you are on the roads.

Having a tough time choosing tires. The Cooper AT3 4S's, or the Mortormaster X Trail Eliminators. I have seen them both with rebates on the coopers the price is 4 dollars different right now. The x tail looks like a tire cooper has called the discoverer rugged trek that i see online but if you look almost the same. When I press down on both tires( tire by themself 2 hands) the x trail is very stable makes me think once a rim and air are in there it would be more solid, or not. But the softness or flex could be better for when the temp drops, providing more grip. etc. The cooper did at3 4s and had more flex but I imagine that is just a difference in the compound or tread direction, but the plys are the same🤔...anyways the x trails felt stickier a bit lil more than the Cooper at3 4s, but only a little more....siping both were good 👍 tread patterns were different but the siping on the coopers from yrs in the past window shopping, I know they go all the way down and know the performance on snow and ice are good something to consider. Even though both tires in ratings are almost identical the x-trails are 100% On Ice'96 on snow, Coopers are 100% on snow 96 or 96 on ice, they're both all weather all terrains and have the three Peak Mountain snowflakes and like I said the motor Masters X trails are made by Cooper. If you go check out Cooper's rugged Trek discoverer, I don't know how old they are, not considering those at all, just something I noticed and thought was interesting. So other than both of them being weather rated and made by Cooper it's tuff. I mention don't 't know if this makes sense or a difference, but pressing down on both of them just standing up, and one had a little bit more Flex than the other Lil easier to push down, that was the Cooper at34s, the x-trail being a little harder depressed down, which appealed to me because my passenger snow tires I had last year, sidewall bulged out the side didn't like at all soft didn't' give that stability you have from an A/T tire which also can take bumps and hard terrains like packed ice in the back alleys and side roads, and not be rattled. It was not a good experience, I have had all terrains the entire time owning this vehicle(2009 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3l awd, which is why I am going with snow-rated A/T. Maybe that is one reason to go for the Motormasters, though I don't imagine I would have much of a problem even though these are passenger tires A/Ts with a stronger compound. Stiffer might not be the best either because I was told the light truck tires weren't recommended for my vehicle because would be harder on the suspension, I figured this could be true with the x-trail even though it's designed for the size of the vehicle, but I would rather have the security and stability than a flimsy tire that bulge, I would take that chance, plus the plys are the same as I mentioned. All in all, they're both about the same and they're both made by Cooper, they both have the snowflake, and both have been tested in the severe Canadian weather that we get in this region. Other than the motor master x-trail eliminators being newer and a little more sticky than the Discover a t 3 4, and a little stiffer to push down, I'm at a stalemate. The siping direction and tread pattern are different but seem really good. The pattern of the Cooper is more forward directional, which for stopping and starting might grip better, but the multi-direction of the Motormaster's might help in sliding sideways to recapture and regrip, who knows? I know the Cooper AT3 4S are definitely good performers around the globe and have had time because they have been around longer. I have to make a decision in a couple of weeks for my appointment to get them on, but I am going down to Canadian Tire now to put a deposit on both, till I decide. . If somebody could help me I appreciate it, and let me know about the push test that might not nothing to do with anything, and also look at the Cooper rugged Trek I'm not buying or looking at, but they look similar tread wise sidewall-wise to the motor Master Eliminator X trails. I've studied and watched and seen the performance online of the AT3 discoverers so I know they are good, but those have been out for 4 years already, and the x-trails might be the newer better version, or Cooper might be holding a little back for their own name brand. All in all, it's going to be City driving. neither Tire would be fine. Appreciate it if you made it this far.

Yeah i realize CT often has them on sale BUT i had a Goodyear fail just recently----on my truck when i bought it used and they are getting badly cracked. I think the truck sat a lot because the guy had a plow on it and basically only used it in the winter to clear his yard and driveway out to the highway. Motomasters are just Cooper Tires. Sure, they can be a pretty attractive offer over BFGs or Yokohamas at Canadian TIre when you rack up the Canadian tire money offers of getting 10-15% back in Crappy tire money. However, all of my worst experiences have been at Crappy Tire, this past year I got sold a set of 7 year old tires from Canadian Tire from their inventory. Also, their tire installation is bait and switch, I was told it would be $26/tire if I bought a set of tires from them but when I got to the counter, they said it was $47/tire because it was an LT. I buy tires that are track tested to handle, because I rather spend more and buy more tires but have the grip when emergency arises, like avoiding a moose, emergency braking, or outrunning a landslide on a mountain pass. And no, I pride myself in hand torqueing wheels to the manufacturer's model specific specs. half tighten in air, fully torqued on the ground with kinetic friction. I get what you mean though... one of the reasons why I left there, cuz the techs aren't teaching me the right way of doing things

Hey Mr Truck King. I bought a set of these after your review and they hydro plane terrible and rear end will break free pretty easy on wet roads too. My Good Year Wrangler Trail Runners were way better on wet roads……

They weren't comparing the truck. They were showing how the tires preform on a midsize and a full size. Pay attention next time

As some who has always bought rwd pickups and used some weight in the bed, how is reliability of modern 4x4s? If i got a 4x4 next time, id still probly buy snow tires an use weight still so id rarely use it as i dont go offroad. Id really only need it maybe once every few years. If i dont use the 4x4 or locking diff for sometimes 8months-2years at a time will i run into problems by not using it often enough?

better resale value, and the only issues you'd run into with 4wd is the CV axles going bad in 150-200k kms.

apparently Toyota recommends shifting their transfer case into 4wd once a month, to make sure everything is working correctly. I guess the electric shifter will stick if never used. This advice came from a Toyota tech. Wont stop me from buying a Toyota for my next truck.

You should definitely use winter tires in Saskatchewan and, on a pickup get some weight in the bed same as you do with your rear while drive pickups. Four wheel drive only helps when you are in 4WD, which won't be most of the time and whether you have 2WD or 4WD, the traction is no better than the tires. It's the winter compound that grips in colder temperatures that does the trick. With all-season tires 4WD will just spin all four wheels instead of two when the tires can't grip because of the cold. And that grip is even more important for braking, which isn't improved at all by 4WD. That mountain/snowflake symbol on the tire means the tread is designed to work in deep/loose surface material like mud and snow, it doesn't necessarily mean the rubber will grip well in temperatures way below freezing like we get in Saskatchewan. Not using 4WD for most of the time is normal. Do the periodic routine maintenance on the drive components as recommended by the manufacturer and it won't wear out and it will work when you need it, as reliably as on your 2WD trucks.
