Hang Them High
Hanging cameras higher in the tree are perfect for keeping your cameras out of sight from dishonest hunters.
SUBSCRIBE: bit.ly/2AO8zqM
We almost exclusively use this method and have had less than 5 cameras stolen out of 100. That's a solid percentage given the volume of cameras we have out. We've also found, less deer give the cameras the "stare" that often happens when a camera is placed only 3-4 feet off the ground.
Run Lithium Batteries
We place cameras on public land with the intention of leaving them for the entire season, if not longer. Unfortunately, checking cameras biweekly would take too much time. Since they are left in the field for so long, we have to get the absolute most out of our battery life.

Cover the camera in camo Duck Tape and use hot glue to glue bark to the camera and elevate them. You better make damn sure you know where you put them.... Or you'll be looking LOL

Great video man! I'm setting up my first trail cam today. Definitely using these tips! Side note: Ny deer look up into the tree's. SUPER pressured. I've been spotted. Was slightly brushed in and not moving a muscle. But I'm afraid of heights and wasn't more than 10ft up 😆🤷‍♂️ Everyone else here hunts 20ft or more. 😱

The trouble with lock cables and trail cameras, is that the cameras are plastic. Really easy to cut the plastic off where the cable hooks to them. I use a 1/8th inch cable and a cheap padlock. If they want to steal it, they will even with a heavy cable. Lock boxes are best. Especially if you can lag bolt them to a tree from the inside.

I use a popsicle stick or chop stick taped to the side of the cam to aim the device so as to cover the area as best I can....and height is best to hide....great info on the video, and some things I never thought of to use...thanks

I made a fibreglass housing for the camera. Basically, a tubular tunnel. the camera sits back around 12 inches from front. The rear end of the tube is capped. The unit is left on the ground facing out of undergrowth.This also keep the rain from ruining the shot with great globules on the lens. The tube is dark green and wrapped in a camo net. The inside of the tube is matt black. I have trouble finding it myself in the bushes.

One question. Why can't they make these cameras less conspicuous or make a cover for them that makes them less conspicuous. With theft being such a problem I would think this would be an option that many people would like. And at 100 bucks a pop putting them up on public land seems a real crap shoot! Better concealment and certainly better straps, etc would be the way to go I would think?? Your thoughts on this?
@ExodusOutdoorGear
@ExodusOutdoorGear 5 жыл бұрын
Fair thoughts! We’ve found simply elevating the camera to get out of sight is a great deterrent for theft. Also utilizing cable locks or lock boxes can help keep people honest.

i hunt Public Land, most of the time i hang my cameras with climbing stick high and with a python cable lock & a padlock, when i hang them l lower around 3/4 feet ,i find a big tree ( so they can't cut the tree and take the cameras), but i still use a a python cable lock & a padlock. i have caught a few people on cam trying to steal my lower cameras

The lock box or camera vault is meant to be lag bolted to the tree. If you cable lock the vault box to the tree, the cable is the weak point. Whether the card is gone or the camera is gone.... camouflage them as best you can to make 'em less obvious... the screw-in mounts are great, as a strap around a tree is a dead giveaway for your camera. Thieves suck. Hunt safely, my Friends!

Bad guys are not stupid. Wire cutters are cheap. Put them up high is about all you can do. Like you said. Me I put a camera watching a cam. I use cheap cams low as bait.

Does not matter how many camera locks or security boxes one has, all the thief has to do is cut down the tree and just take the section of the tree the camera is attached to. Look for the weakest link

Here's a little trick I came up with that might help from getting your equip stolen. I create a jpeg in Photoshop and it's just a simple messege on it like the following "BEWARE! I check my cams every 2 to 3 days BEWARE! IF YOU HAVE STOLEN THIS CAMERA! I have several cameras watching this camera as well as the road/trail in and out of here. I have taken the time to camo some really well and I can assure you that I have hi quality video and images of YOU and any vehicle you may have used STEALING MY PROPERTY! I suggest that you return my camera to its original spot or I will go directly to local POLICE with what I have, as well as posting all images and videos of YOU to local websites/FB groups ect... SO RETURN MY PROPERTY NOW ASSHOLE!!!" then I name my newly created jpeg "YOU STOLE THIS CAMERA" and I put it on all my SD cards in all my cameras. So if a thief checks the card he will likly read it and it might convince them to just put it back. It's not a garantee but at least its worth a shot..
