So... I did/caused a thing at work involving this video/song. I forgot I left Bluetooth on... and my phone connected to the entire speaker system at my job (a bakery), and everyone froze... looked around, and to my surprise many of them started singing along. My boss walks in and asks who’s music is this... my answer was it’s my phone, and it’s my favorite a cappella group singing. She asked who they are... I told her: it’s Voiceplay, a group of guys plus a female friend of theirs singing a song from Stranger Things. Her response: what else have they done? I show her some videos... Her next sentence almost brought me to my knees. My boss: “I love the beatboxer... he’s so handsome.” My response: yes yes he is So I ended up playing almost every song done by Voiceplay from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm... and singing along with every single one.

Well, they've already recorded numerous songs by The Nylons... perhaps they could "update" one of them (since only Geoff and Layne are on the original). Note to self: Do not watch any VoicePlay videos for the first time with a few shots of vodka in my system. That "doubling" effect messed with my head for a second. 😆 (But not as much as it messes with my head to realize that stuff I owned when it was new is _vintage_ now, like the cassette player with headphones.) I love the guys rocking the 80s looks with various degrees of success. The music is amazing, of course, it's Voiceplay after all, they can take a song I'm indifferent to and make me love it. Cesar's "Do Do Do" part is great, vaguely disco-ish and accurate to the lingering influence on some early 80s pop sound, and of course I love all the gentlemen getting to sing (including Layne, yayy! I love Layne's voice.) Eli is a joy to hear even when he's not doing those high metal-esque belts that I'm mad for; he's so versatile that it's just amazing. Geoff's velvet tones are beautiful, and as much as I love his suuuuper low drops, it's lovely to get to enjoy his singing without distraction. And speaking of sweet tones, I agree with the other commenter that the gentleness of Layne's voice in the section starting at 2:50 is wonderful. More of Layne singing, please!!! Is the levitating bit a Stranger Things reference? Anyway it's great, I love the men's reactions. Eli's expression is like "Is this part of the video? No one told this was going to happen! _Someone tell me this was planned!"_ Geoff and Layne's faces and postures scream, "This was DEFINITELY NOT PLANNED WTFFFFFFF!!" and Cesar looks like he's trying to convince himself that the others are pranking him because if not he's *_bolting_* out of there away from the weirdness. And maybe I'm getting sentimental in my middle age, but the end where all the gentlemen run to help Ashley after she falls back down is just really sweet. Why can I not comment on VP vids without writing an essay? Gah. Anyway, tl:dr is I loved it all, please never stop making music.

But I don’t know where Geoff would fit in... there’s no true bass drop in this one... other then being the bass line I don’t see him being the shock factor in this song. It’s an interesting idea for sure, and I don’t think they have done anything from Bowie yet either. I honestly want to throw Layne an EDM type song... but that might be too much... I had completely forgotten about the whole Kate Bush "vibe". This captured it (without cloning it) superbly.

Everything this group does is mind blowing! Beautiful voices! I especially love Layne’s beatboxing on this one, to say nothing of his singing. Keep ‘em coming, guys!

Okay y'all. I was skeptical cause the original is a masterpiece. Shouldn't have doubted Voiceplay's ability to make a bangin cover. I'm sorry, please forgive me

That time VoicePlay dialed the mojo up just a little too high and almost launched their guest vocalist into orbit

Very excited to see such a great song being recognized for its worth these many years later, and so happy that VoicePlay continue to do amazing, timely covers of great songs that will draw new eyes and ears to them and hopefully gain them even more die-hard fans like us! Can't wait!! 🎉🎉

VoicePlay, I absolutely LOVE how you add to, change, and/or embellish each verse to give it its own unique flavour. It’s classic VP, and one of the many things that keeps me coming back for more. Ashley was a great pick in collaborator - her voice just suits this song perfectly! The absolutely gorgeous blend of voices at 2:52 creates such an amazing, gentle texture. Layne, thank you from the bottom of my chord junkie heart for those Cmin(add9) chords at 1:04, 2:14, and 3:25 - I’m not sure you’ll ever realize how happy those made me! 😍This arrangement is just so pleasing and interesting. You have a real knack for taking the listener on a journey. (Starting and ending this song with a nod to the Stranger Things theme was a brilliant touch.) Cesar, your tender sweetness and passion always shines through in your vocals and your characterization in all these videos. I love watching you play to the camera. Geoff, I love it each time you do one of these three-note, two-octave drops like at 0:53. Such a cool and worthy flex. You are always proof that a bass line certainly does not have to be boringly holding down the root. Eli, your lighting game keeps getting more and more impressive. You’ve really managed to evoke so many cool tones and textures and emotions here. SO MUCH APPLAUSE. Thank you for this.

Based on your analysis, what songs do you like or love for Voiceplay to do, make sure that you make it complex for Geoff for the Bassline ( what low of the lowest notes do you want) also Eil for his perching high notes like heavy metal lead singer ( what high notes do you want for Eil)

I think this was just a one-off because they wanted to capitalize on the hype of the release of Stranger Things Part 2. They otherwise do monthly releases

I LOVE that this arrangement is not packed with super low notes from Geoff, but instead everyone shares the spotlight and contribute equally to the greatness of this cover. It's a breath of fresh air. It sounds super crisp and clean as well, and the production quality is definitely top 3 ever for Voiceplay. Great job!

And again voiceplay just amazes me with how talented they are. I've only watched a few episodes of Stranger Things but I really enjoyed this. I am definitely going to be playing this on repeat for the next few weeks.
