I have a question if you would answer it. If you are shooting a Hawkins or a Kentucky rifle in a battle, like the Last of the Mohicans, were the British get ambushed by the Indians. Do you just drop the ball in the barrel and keep the rifle elevated to keep the second shot from rolling out? I have a traditional BP that is percussion, I have often thought about how our fore fathers did it. I know why they were good with knives and tomahawks, lol. Thank you for your input.
@blackpowdermaniacshooter9 ай бұрын
@@outdoorlife5396 Yes... when your life is in danger, you don't care about patching or safety rules. You will do what I performed in this video at @10:05. Hurry up & get the firearm loaded to take out your enemy. Thanked for asking & watching.

I wish I could have tried this 30 years ago. I probably would not be so worn out trying this feat!
@TR_Swan9 ай бұрын
@@outdoorlife5396 I never saw the film. What you say kind of conflicts in my mid. I have shot a musket (smooth bore) that I had to tilt the muzzle skyward to keep the ball in place as we not patching it. Had I tilted the muzzle the ball would have rolled out. My TC Hawken (which is a short stock Pennsylvania style) is a rifle, hence the rifling holds the ball in place. I have never loaded two balls as I consider that wasteful.
@outdoorlife53969 ай бұрын
@@TR_Swan I was talking about the second shot, you are reloading, when in a fight. Like when they attacked Boonsboro, Morgan's Riflemen etc. I was just thinking without the patch, you would damage the rifling with the second shot. It's like in the Patriot, he might have got that done with smoothbore, but I don't see a rifle doing it.

Hey Mark can you use black horn powder in a side lock rifle
@blackpowdermaniacshooter9 ай бұрын
Blackhorn 209 was specifically designed for modern in-line muzzleloaders with sealed ignition systems using standard 209 shotshell primers. I would check with your rifle’s manufacturer for compatibility because I wouldn't use black horn in a side lock. It is too expensive ( $ 79.00 per 8 oz container here in Kentucky ) and real black powder is much better. Thanks for asking.

When reloading on the run, are you priming the pan before charging the barrel? I realize this is more dangerous, but it appears thats what you were doing and I makes sense with the unpatched round ball so you don't risk it rolling down the barrel while priming the pan. Mel Gibson made it look so easy lol
@blackpowdermaniacshooter6 ай бұрын
