Isn't it ironic that back then, in the early 90s, in a time when everybody said metal is dying and grunge is taking over, when every true 80s metal band was sailing into the west, a handful of german metal bands released their most awesome stuff in their career, albums from 1992-96, holding up the last flag of true 80s metal? Since you are already here, it seems you already discovered Running Wild, but If you haven't heard it yet, just check out Gamma Ray (anything from "Land of the Free" album (1995), but especially "Rebellion In Dreamland"), Blind Guardian (anything from" Imaginations From The Other Side" album, but especially the title track "Imaginations From The Other Side" or "A Past and Future Secret" (1994)), Helloween (anything from "Master of the Rings" or "Time of the Oath" album (1994 & 1996)), Rage ("In a Nameless Time" from the "Black In Mind" album or "Enough Is Enough" from the "Trapped!" album (1995 & 1992)) or Iced Earth (especially the title track from the "Burnt Offerings" album (1995)).... What a crazy time that was to be a teenager, when all of your friends were just talking about that new shit from Pearl Jam, Nirvana or Alice In Chains, and when you told 'em 'bout the new Iced Earth album, no one at school knew what you were talking about...

Yeah, man I can relate to this in some ways. The metal everyone was listening to in the mid to late 90's was like Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Korn and I could never really get into it and knew no one that was into old school 80's metal or the good metal like Iced Earth in the 90's. It wasn't until 2016 I met a hot chick at work who loved heavy metal and let me listen to King Diamond where I discovered how amazing metal was. I sadly believed in all the stereotypes of heavy metal of it being too satanic and crazy for me to give it a chance. I also use to be really into hip hop and now I hardly listen to it at all. So, I'm in my mid 30s and very late to the game which is kind of lame but the good thing is I'm enjoying the fuck out of being a metal head and have built a huge cd collection over the past 3 years. Also, have been to well over 25 metal shows and in the process of completing my first battle jacket. Yeah, 90's was shitty for that reason. I found bands on Pandora when I first started and would just buy individual songs before I went onto buying full albums. The very first bands I got into were king Diamond, Helloween, and DIO. Got to see Helloween perform in Hollywood in September of 2018. Was amazing! Thanks for sharing your story. \m/

Running Wild ist eine absolute Hammerband. Ich bin durch eine Jogginghose mit dem Logo von der Band aufmerksam geworden. Und als ich das erste mal Jolly Roger gehört habe war es bei mir vorbei seitdem Jage ich allem hinterher was mit Running Wild zu tun hat. In der DDR war das natürlich nicht so einfach. 🤘👍.
