Definitely important stuff. I ran my first marathon (MK) in 2019 and at about mile 20 I ground to a complete halt despite having plenty of water and fuel. A very kind marshal gave me her bag of salt and vinegar crisps. After about a mile or so the salt kicked in and I was able to finish strong.... Trying again on SUNDAY! Wish me luck!

Best electrolyte I have ever seen is honest electrolyte powder by the mineral republic, 60 servings of 1000Mg Potassium, 120MG calcium & 120Mg magnesium and salt, works out each serving has 14 times more potassium than SIS tablets and 3 times more magnesium

Bit of an SIS fan. I often take an SIS tablet in a water bottle on my runs. Gives me a bit of pep in my step. The gels are good too. Easy on a delicate stomach and helpful on the long sessions. Gatorade G2 powder. I wake up with swollen fingers on days I've forgotten to take electrolytes, and I'm apparently a heavy/salty sweater, so I go with what my stomach tolerates and what is the least expensive for me without adding too much sugar -- Gatorade (non-G2) powder is also very good. I go through a ton of electrolytes and like that both these Gatorade products come in cardboard canisters that I can recycle.
@RobbyDesmond3 жыл бұрын
Have to admit that my familiarity with Gatorade when I was a runner in high school made it my go-to at first for electrolytes, but it always has to be suuuuuper watered down. After I did the Fox Valley Marathon in 2019, I discovered the joy of the Endurance formulation, which has a lot lighter flavor and less sweetness with more carbohydrates and more electrolytes than the regular stuff. I've just stuck with it because it's cheap and available in a giant tub. I'll admit that the Skratch has been on my radar though, and the ginger stuff looks great for keeping my stomach calm.

I started working out about 3 months ago almost, mostly just running for about 40 mins on a treadmill a couple of times a week roughly, I was also sweating a lot and only drinking water with zero electrolytes, Gatorade etc! About a month ago or so I threw up and got very dizzy and had heart palpitations and chest pain for a week, extreme tiredness and weakness and blurry vision, and headache/brain swelling. Went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago in my blood work was fine, look for another blood test and heart check but everything seems to be good? I'm now assuming it's an electrolyte deficiency. I'm not sure how much you guys know about this but since I started drinking Gatorade and having these tablets I've been feeling a little bit better, symptoms come and go but they're very mild now of dizziness and weakness. It's been 11 days since I started. I'm hoping I"m hoping I'm 💯 again soon.

Hi I’m training for a marathon & I’ve found out that I’m a “salty sweater”. I’ve tried some of the products you have tested, but after approx 1.5 litres of one taste I getting stomach anything else? Is there one product that is less likely to give this taste boredom on long runs?
@runningchannel3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shaun, great questions. It might be worth trying a range of different products - some of the products listed in our video contain higher amounts of electrolytes, which may better suited to you. With regards to your second point - you may find that electrolyte gels are easier to consume if you find that some of the drink mixes are hard to stomach. Alternatively, try a couple of different drink mixes from different brands, as some brands produce 'all-natural' mixes that you may prefer the taste of and, as Rick mentions in the video, some of the flavours from brands are sweeter/saltier/'stronger' than others. We hope you find the product(s) that work for you! Let us know how you get on 😊

Any runners know if when you go for a run and feel ill from it what that means? I'm watching this thinking maybe it's because I have a low salt diet (I have a lot of food allergies) and make all my food from scratch so wondering if I should try some of these to feel better? Yesterdays run was rough I felt so ill afterwards but I don't get it every run just sometimes 🤔 I think it could be low salt because I have low blood pressure in the healthy range however and when I have less salt I get a lot of head rush so think maybe these sort of things might give me a boost after I've ran as I've seen a few salt marks on my clothes too which surely ain't helping my lack of sodium anyways 🤔
