As an Englishman I haven’t a clue what he’s singing but I know Alba means Scotland and having lived in Scotland as an Englishman for 23yrs I can honestly say it’s a beautiful country worth singing about. Slaintè Mhath 🥃

The empty house mentioned and is being pointed to in the video is the old Royal High School, which was going to be where the reconvened Scottish Parliament was to be, but for the sneaky trick Labour pulled on our devolution.

I came of age in the '80s and I always hated going out dancing back then because I thought I was terrible at it. Watching these old videos makes me realize I wasn't any worse than anybody else. I would have had a much better time in the clubs if I'd realized this back then.

Now this is just my personal opinion runrig were OK with bruce on vocals but brilliant with donnie as the lead singer,I was lucky enough to see them live many times including at loch lomond what a day that was,but the atmosphere for their shows at the barrowlands especially for songs like skye, protect and survive, rocket to the Moon and the cutter the floor was moving lol I wish they were still performing and they coukd teach a lot of today's so called stars about how to perform live

Okay so imma try and analyze this. A) This song could be understood as Siol Ghoraidhs' Sequel. Siol Ghoraid thematized the highland clearances this song mentions "The beautiful lands of it's people still in the hands of the few" aswell as the "northern lands laid bare" B) It apparently advocates for the creation of the scottish parliament "The big empty house in Edinburgh without any power or voice"

This song is brilliant! When this video was made it must have cost Runrig a fortune or it was done on a budget. Either way it's the song not the film that is important.

As much as I enjoy Runrig...it's the bad Chris De Burgh dad dancing of Donnie Munro that just gets you with this video!. I suspect as well this is where all the disaffected SNP supporters are going to defect to over the current mess...was thinking they'll need a new home...

Dont be orrible, so he isnt a lionel Blair, but that ethereal voice certainly makes up for it. All these mickey takers wished they could sing like that, so leave off and leave the poor geezer alone.
