You may have to disassemble that to get it to mount onto the bumper, as fitting the screw into the mount that is under the motor and screwing it into the bumper is going to be a nightmare. Also be interested in seeing if changing the cord for high breaking strain fishing line would save the binding isssues

Thanks for the comment I forgot to mention that in the video. Yes in order to install it you will have to remove the roller assembly. They provide holes on the outer plate to get a screwdriver through to remove the 2 screws connecting the motor assembly to the roller assembly. So after removing the grub screw and 2 screws you can slide that whole assembly out and have access to the mounting points without having to disassemble the roller section. Then just slide it all back together and install grub screw and the 2 screws to secure the motor assembly and your good to go. I may try fishing line if my fix doesn't work on that wpl winch.

Hello Dave. Very nice little video on this winch, thank you. I have a couple of points. 1. Like you I found the cable would slip into the gap between the barrel and the side plate. I made a washer to go there of od about twice the width of the barrel od and id to fit over barrel stub. I ground the washer on a surface grinder until it was exactly the right thickness to fit in the gap between the barrel and the side plate without binding. The winch now works perfectly and never binds. 2. I am having some difficulty controlling the winch. First I tried it with the 7 ch HobbyPorter I bought on your recommendation to have on a 4 wheel steering WPL B14 which I built up following your videos on 4ws. The controller works fine for the lights and 4ws, but I cannot get it to work the winch. I connected the winch up with the rb/c winch controller board. Whatever channel I plug it into on the HobbyPorter rx it either only works one way only, or jiggles back and forth. I’ve tested the winch with a battery and it works fine both ways. I’ve tested the winch with the winch controller board on a servo tester and it works fine both ways. Perhaps it just doesn’t work with the HobbyPorter? 3. So I thought I’d try it on my B36. In you video you say it should plug straight into the motherboard. I have the WPL V 3 diesel version motherboard and controller. However studying the instructions there is no two pin socket on the mother board indicated for a winch. There is a three pin servo outlet marked auxiliary. The toggle on the tx is also indicated auxiliary. So presumably I should use the winch controller on this servo outlet from the motherboard and plug the winch into the controller board into that? It would be much neater however if I could just plug the winch lead straight into the motherboard and miss out the winch controller. Sorry for the long message. Any help or advice appreciated. James.

I used the WPL V2 and V3 esc receiver boards on my winch equipped trucks. They just plug in to the servo looking lead no winch controller needed for that setup. As for the Hobbyporter issue, I never ran into the issue because I never ran a winch with it unfortunately. Thanks for the heads up though!

Not perfect but a little tinkering and its running well now. I will have a update on this after I use it a bit and compare it to the wpl one for reliability and ability.

Thanks for your advice, Dave. I’ve got the winch to work fine now, from the three pin auxiliary. I didn’t realise that you are supposed just to use the outer pins only, connected to the winch. It’s confusing when you see a three pin you think it’s should have three wires connected. It is clear on the instruction sheet once you notice it! Should have looked at it more closely. Thanks bro. This winch is just ok compared to the wpl one. Its faster than the wpl one but weaker. You have to leave the rollers loose as well for it to work right or the barrel will bind due to not so accurate machining. So loctite is a must for those roller screws for sure.

Had to make sure the rollers rolled when installed to help the barrel not bind but so far it's doing ok. I like it.

If your using the WPL V3 or V2 board its one of the 3 pin servo leads. Your going to have to take the wire out of the white connector and use a servo style lead or just force them on directly and secure them with tape or solder it on.

Its probably not going to be strong enough for anything bigger than these rigs. Maybe a servo style winch would be good.

This winch is absolute crap. Beware of buying this crap, guys. The WPL plastic winch is better (but fits only to C34/C44 plastic bumper without mod).

Mine seems to work ok and even lifted my C24K no problem. It's not the best but if you assemble it just right it works ok for now that is lol. Some field tests will tell how reliable it will remain. The wpl one is better and more powerful in my opinion.
