英語勉強中の日本人にこんなにも手をかけて教えてくれるなんて、本当にいい人なんだなと思う。。I like him because his effort to teach us English politely encouraged me to keep learning English.

I wonder why “caught my eye” is not eyes 🤔 Sorry, i guess it’s not a big deal

@@ryoka8642 Good question. I think for body part idioms we often use them in a singular form: "caught my eye" "cold shoulder" "break a leg" "sweet tooth" etc. There are some exceptions like "a sight for sore eyes" "music to my ears". Idioms are kind of tricky like that : )

いつもモチベーション上がってます!0:17 This is a pretty good movie to learn English with. ≒ This is a movie that is good to learn English.でしょうか。Rupa先生の文にあるwithが何の前置詞か分からないのですが。。
@Rupasensei4 жыл бұрын
'with': accompanied by (another person or thing). - used as a function word to indicate combination, accompaniment, presence, or addition. Examples: "a nice steak with a bottle of red wine." "This is a good pen to write with." "She is a friend I can talk about anything with." "This is a good movie to learn English with." Your sentence is also correct: "This is a good movie to learn English" also "This is a good movie to learn English FROM" Hope that helps : )

やま looking forward to ingってならうよな
@rainyrainy83864 жыл бұрын
Pai Duaikan krap 確かにfinallyはmeetを修飾していますが、副詞は無くても文法的に問題ないものなのでfinallyの有無でmeetが原形に変わるとは考えにくいかと思います。日本の教科書や参考書に従うならばこのmeetはmeetingにするのが正しいですね。
質問です。 4:14 はI’m looking forward to meeting you となるべきではないのですか? The phrasal verb 'look forward to' must be followed by a noun since “to” is a preposition here and not part of the infinitive. But is this phrase natural among native speakers?
@Rupasensei4 жыл бұрын
Very good question! And you're correct! This example is technically grammatically wrong as you should use the 'ing' form to make the verb into a gerund (a verb that acts as a noun). And you should follow that rule in an essay or on a test. But in a conversation, it's not a rule I would worry about. English grammar has a lot of rules and sometimes we will break them in conversation. Thanks for pointing it out : )
