Mother Ru is so smart. I love Sharon dearly, and it's important to realize how young and new she is. I know for me, personally, that I will probably look back at periods of my life for the rest of my life where I think, "Oh darling..... what were you thinking??!!" Everytime RuPaul calls her a "diplomat," I can't help but think it's a very tactful way for her to say "bitch, don't forget who put you where you are and that you're still very much tied to my brand." Ru could have read her to filth for everything she's done (not all of it can be explained away as merely being a "transgressive" artist - she used to sign her glossies with racial slurs). She instead chose to use her words carefully and hope Sharon was smart enough to read between the lines.

Sharon has an edginess the more people-pleasing, less subversive Alaska does not. Alaska softens Sharon, who perhaps goes too far at times. Ru was indirectly telling Sharon to avoid charged topics lest she isolate herself from the drag world of which Ru is the Empress and give them all a bad image as the show is gaining widespread acceptance. Was it a veiled threat or an opportunity for Sharon to set the record straight? Sharon's view appears more nuanced than most but PR is all in show biz.
