I think some people should think about the Pearl thing from a few more angles. Ru faced a lot of rejection throughout the years, now imagine how many people have been sucking up to him in recent years. For all he knew, Pearl could have been trying to earn his favour. It also is just helpful advice for the queens. You're going to be a lot more likeable if you open up on camera. He is a judge on that show, not a mother. His job is to make it entertaining and get ratings. It sounds harsh, but that is far better for the contestants because that means more exposure, more fans, more opportunities and more money for them. If no one watched, then these queens wouldn't get the same fame. What he said was harsh, true, but I don't know what was going through his head at the time and it was not fucking horrific, so yeah, I'll still watch.

Exactly, Suzanne's style has always maintained androgyny, she never wanted to look female, it's always been about looking alienesque and otherworldly; exactly that of a drag queen and drag culture. There are cisgender female drag queens such as her and Wendy Ho and the difference is obvious. Allowing cis females on the show would change the whole dynamics from a production POV. The’ve got a formula that works and appeals to an audience. It’s not about hating female drag queens, Ru has constantly talked about female drag queens (that is since the 90’s, especially during his VH1 talk show) and praised them even to this day. It has nothing to do with his perspective of life but with a business and a brand. Just look at Drag U and it’s lack of success. His respect and gratefulness for Susanne is beyond and you can see it in their rapport, he has said many times before he wants everyone to know about Susanne and this documentary is his tribute to her. And regarding the trans women comment it was of course ignorant but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t respect them or their art or that he doesn’t consider them valid. Just listen to his interviews and how he has always defended trans females before it was even acceptable to say it on mainstream media. Hell, even in 2008 you’d think we’d be advanced and yet there was Howard Stern and his people making fun of trans women during their interview with Ru and he graciously defended the woman they were making fun of. It has never been about invalidating other people, it’s really a business and that’s how it works.

Did I say cis women should be on the show? No, what I was saying was cisgender drag has a place of prevalence in the community. Trans women though is a completely different story because they existed as drag was being manifested and it's ridiculous that Ru as someone who grew up all his life around trans queens said he wouldn't allow one on, especially with some of the most iconic queens being trans (Crystal Labeija, Dorian Corey, Amanda Lepore, Candice Cayne, Glamorous Monique, Peppermint, etc)
